Hugh Jackman’s ex Deborra-Lee Furness speaks out for first time in phone call with Kyle Sandilands

Deborra-Lee Furness has shocked listeners after answering a cold call from Kyle Sandilands and Jackie “O” Henderson live on-air this morning.

Fresh from her split from husband Hugh Jackman, the Australian actress surprisingly picked up the call after the radio duo who accidentally rang in from their KIIS FM studios in Sydney.

Sandilands and Henderson were shocked when she answered as they did not mean to hit ‘dial’.

“Seriously, this isn’t a stich up,” Sandilands told Furness when she picked up on The Kyle & Jackie O Show.

“We didn’t mean to actually call you. But now you’re here, we won’t go into it. We love you, we hope you’re well.”

Apart from a joint statement the couple released to People magazine, the actress has not been seen or heard from since she and Jackman announced their split on September 15. Therefore, this is the first time she has spoken out since the breakdown of her 27-year marriage.

“Thank you, guys. I really appreciate it. You’re really sweet,” Furness told Sandilands and Henderson.

Feeling bad, Sandilands stressed that the duo weren’t after a scoop as they did not want to pry.

“I just feel it’s too soon,” the shock jock told Furness over the phone. “I don’t want to get involved in anything. But we love you, and you ring us when you want to chat.”

Before hanging up, Furness again said: “Thank you, guys. I really, really appreciate it.”

Henderson praised Sandilands after the phone call, telling him “that was the right thing to do” – and he agreed.

“I’m not here to stitch anyone up in the worse time in their life,” he explained.

However, it is unlikely Furness will take Sandilands up on that offer to call them once she’s ready to talk.

When she and Jackman released their joint statement weeks ago, they said that would be the one and only time they will both speak publicly about the break-up.

“This is the sole statement either of us will make,” they wrote.

Elsewhere in their statement, they said their two children – Oscar, 23, and Ava, 18 – will remain their top priority.

“We have been blessed to share almost 3 decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage. Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth,” they wrote.

“Our family has been and always will be our highest priority. We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness. We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family navigates this transition in all of our lives.”
