It debunks rumors from earlier this year that developer Game Science had entered into a shady PlayStation exclusivity deal.
Xbox fans are pretty much used to being left out when it comes to console gaming, with developers increasingly likely to stick with PlayStation and fix Xbox after the fact. Stellar Blade, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Rise of the Ronin, and Silent Hill 2 were all 2024 third-party titles that chose to skip Xbox, for one reason or another, but it was Black Myth: The Lack of an Xbox Version from Wukong. it caused the biggest stink.
We know that Black Myth: Wukong will be coming to Xbox at some point, but the problem is that the Xbox version of the game has been delayed indefinitely, and many assume the weaker Xbox Series S was the cause. Developer Game Science, though , never confirmed this, and there was rampant speculation that Black Myth: Wukong had a shady exclusivity deal with PlayStation, further pushed by a dubious statement from Microsoft itself.

Black Myth: Wukong would never win Game of the Year
It's a good game, but it's never been good enough to match up against heavier hitters this year.
More than four months after the game's release on PlayStation and PC, it looks like we finally have an official answer for the delay of Black Myth: Wukong on Xbox, as director Feng Ji, also known as Yocar, simply blamed the Series S in a new post on the Chinese social media platform Weibo.
Black Myth: Wukong Director Blames Series S Memory for Xbox Delay
Yocar's post on Weibo was in response to Black Myth: Wukong's impressive performance during this year's Steam Awards – which once again proved to be quite controversial – as the game managed to pick up three in total, along with Game of the Year. According to a translation from a ResetEra user, Yocar explains that he “felt a little emotional” after seeing the awards the game got, and that the only thing that would make 2024 perfect is the release of the Xbox version .
Yocar goes on to say that the “10G shared memory” used by the Xbox Series S made it impossible to release the game on the system “without a few years of optimization experience.” This pretty much rules out all the talk of PlayStation's shady deals and confirms what many already believed, that the Series S is once again causing major headaches for a developer.
Game Science isn't the only developer who's had issues with the Series S. Dune Awakening developer Funcom said working with the system is “a challenge,” while a former Naughty Dog and Rocksteady developer simply wished the console “had never existed”. Baldur's Gate 3 developer Larian had to ditch split-screen to get it installed on the system, so it's not like Game Science is alone when it comes to Series S headaches.
Black Myth: Wukong is an action role-playing game rooted in Chinese mythology and based on Journey to the West, one of the four great classic novels of Chinese literature.
