This title is accompanied by an asterisk World of assassins technically it's not a game but a collection of them. Two years after the release of the third chapter of the new trilogy, IO Interactive has decided to combine its last three Hitman games in a single package, while still allowing the package to be purchased in parts. The combined trilogy relaunched for PC and consoles in January 2023 and also came to Meta Quest 3 in September 2024.

On January 10, IO Interactive announced this on Twitter Hitman: World of Assassins reached 75 million lifetime players. The studio described this achievement as a “monumental” achievement, adding that its business is currently “stronger than ever.” While the company didn't provide any further details regarding the milestone it just shared, it's possible this could happen Sicario 3 was among the major contributors to World of assassinslifetime player count. Previous sales estimates indicate this Sicario 3 outperformed its predecessor in some key markets such as the UK, while the predecessor itself recovered development costs faster than in 2016 Hitman Done.
Hitman's latest player achievement is likely driven by Xbox Game Pass and the free Starter Pack
In the end, none of the games probably contributed as much to the 75 million player milestone as this one Hitman: World of Assassins has been available on Xbox Game Pass for two years, with a release in January 2024. An even more important factor to consider is the free Starter Pack that IO Interactive has offered since the game's original release in 2021. The first two chapters of the new trilogy they also received free demos which further contributed to their diffusion.
Despite the huge success, the Hitman series is currently on something of a hiatus
Hitman: World of Assassins is still receiving regular content updates, with IO Interactive previously confirming that this trend will continue for a while yet. However, minor content in the form of elusive targets and the like seems to represent the full extent of the Danish developer's current focus on the franchise.
Rather than working on something else Hitman game, IO Interactive is currently pursuing two unrelated projects. One of them is a game based on James Bond IP, code name Project 007which has been in the works since 2020. The other is Fantasy Projecta new IP announced in 2023 and aims to push IOI beyond its comfort zone with a fantastic setting.
