Who is Vennessa in Genshin Impact?

The origins of Vennessa

Where does it come from?

As a child, Vennessa lived with a nomadic people called Muratan; they traveled across the country for many years, enduring many hardships and struggling to survive, which pushed them to train and master survival techniques and various forms of combat to protect themselves. It was through this training that they preserved their culture, but this did not stop Vennessa from learning about Celestia, the supposed home of the gods. Legends like these fueled Vennessa's drive to become a great warrior.

Unfortunately, things turned dire when the Muratan were starved to death by the beast, Ursa The Drake, and were forced to flee to Mondstadt and were soon imprisoned by the ruling class. Due to their warrior prowess, the Muratan were forced to fight for the amusement of the nobles, with Vennessa gaining recognition in the Colosseum; she fought alongside her sister Lind, earning the name “Lionfang Knight” and soon became the champion of the arena.

The role of Vennessa

What did he do?

After all she had been through, Vennessa was determined to use her strength and skill to free the Muratan from slavery. After becoming the champion, she was approached by Venti, who sought her protection while fleeing Barca Lawrence and his clan.

Although Barca recognized Vennessa and chose not to fight her, he used his power and resources to buy and imprison her along with the rest of the Muratan. Venti offered to help free Vennessa and her people, but she remained steadfast that the Muratan would fight and claim freedom for themselves.

While Vennessa remained in prison, Barça quickly staged a truly despicable event. He had Vennessa and all the Muratans (including all non-warriors) enter the Colosseum to face their greatest enemy: Ursa The Drake. Completely certain that the Muratans would fall, Barça not only promised them freedom, but also complete dominion over the city of Mondstadt.

The battle began and Vennessa proved herself the strongest among her people, but Ursa was a truly powerful opponent. It seemed hopeless until the sudden appearance of the mystical being Barbatos (orchestrated by Venti). Using his power, Barbatos strengthened Vennessa's strength and fighting spirit, which allowed her to finally defeat Ursa.

With their victory and Barbatos still on the pitch, Barça had no choice but to keep their end of the bargain. This event had a ripple effect that led to a full-blown movement to overthrow the aristocracy with Vennessa leading the rebellion.

The fate of Vennessa

What happened to her?

The rebellion quickly gained much popularity and support from powerful allies such as Dawn Knight Ragnvindr and the Gunnhildr Clan. It wasn't long before the aristocracy fell and Mondstadt entered a new era. To help rebuild the city and restore order, Vennessa founded the Knights of Favonius and became its first Grand Master. She was very active as a leader and member, often retreating to Eagle's Gate to rest and reflect.

Toward the end of her life, Vennessa's childhood wonder came true. She is said to have been recognized by Celestia as a truly valiant and honorable warrior. This allowed her to ascend to the divine realm from the very place where the great Windrise oak now grows. In her ascension, Vennessa took the form of a hawk and became one of the Four Winds, known as the Hawk of the West.
