In terms of the overall story, both Person 4 AND Persona 4 Golden will offer the same basic story. Beyond that, Persona 4 Golden is an improved version of the original game, updating virtually every aspect of the game and adding to what was already there.
There is a lot of additional content that takes place after the base game's story and this article will avoid any potential spoilers. Here's everything added to the Golden version of Persona 4 Goldenand also the things that make the original Person 4 a unique experience on its own.
What's new in Persona 4 Golden
The biggest addition to Persona 4 Golden it's the additional story that adds another month of time in the gamewith the story continuing what was in the original. The culmination of this additional month is also a new dungeon which is by far the most unique dungeon in the game, along with a fairly difficult boss that will push your party in different ways than the base game's bosses.
In addition to the additional month, there are more in-game events that have been added to existing monthssuch as a trip to the beach and a show in Junes, both of which feature animated cutscenes. In the base game it won't feel like these events are missing, but it adds more moments of life to the story. If you complete the additional content in the game's bonus month, there will also be a proper final epilogue, which will be the new final scene of the game.
Persona 4 Golden also gets two new social links to level up:
- Tohru Adachi – Dojima's partner
- Mary – The new character in Persona 4 Goldenand an additional employee in the Velvet Room.
In addition to all the new story content, there are many gameplay changes that make the experience much more complex than the base game:
-
Tag Team Attacks.
-
Cavalry attacks.
- Skill cards.
-
Gardening.
-
Catches insects.
- Additional personas for the protagonist.
-
Persona level three for each party member.
-
The Reaper can be fought in a single match instead of in New Game Plus.
-
TV Listings in the main menu, which contains a large collection of bonus content.
-
Network capabilities.
-
Costumes while in the world of TV.
- Choose which skill is inherited during the Persona fusion.
-
Opportunity to explore Inaba at night.
-
Valentine's Day is a playable day.
In addition to all this bonus content, Persona 4 Golden it's also much more accessible than the base Person 4as it is available on all modern consoles. The bonus month and the content that comes with it can also be lost if the right conditions are not met, still allowing you to experience the original ending of the game without an epilogue if you wish.
Which edition should you play
If it's your first time playing Person 4; there is there's no reason why you shouldn't play the Golden edition first if not every time you choose to play. All the bonus content only enriches the game and makes the original experience even better. One thing Golden loses is the original fog effect, which is rendered differently in Golden, although if you're playing on PC a mod can restore it.
