Kojima Productions and 505 Games shocked everyone earlier this month when they revealed and simultaneously released an Xbox Series Death Stranding: Director's Cut. Stranded Death also received a 50% discount on Xbox consoles at launch, which was even more surprising. The game normally costs $40 on Microsoft's platform, but Xbox players can currently purchase it for just $20.
Stranded Death was originally an IP owned by PlayStation; the game was financed, published and produced by the same manufacturer as the console. Nonetheless, it still managed to make its way to Xbox consoles because KojiPro recently purchased the rights to it Stranded Death from Sony Interactive Entertainment. While nothing has been confirmed yet, this unexpected multiplatform pivot from Kojima Productions could hint that some of its other titles, such as the upcoming Xbox game ODit will also come to more consoles in the future.

Why Kojima's OD game might be less controversial than Death Stranding
Kojima's upcoming horror game OD may be more accommodating to the divisive weirdness derived from its one-off action title Death Stranding.
Death Stranding coming to Xbox makes OD porting to PlayStation more likely
OD is Hideo Kojima's first collaborative effort with Xbox Game Studios
Hideo Kojima has frequently collaborated with PlayStation throughout much of his career, but for the first time ever he's working on a project with Xbox instead. One of the next games that Kojima Productions is working on is called ODand is published by Xbox Game Studios. Although Kojima's partnership with the first-party publisher was originally announced in 2022, OD itself wasn't formally revealed until the 2023 Game Awards.
Not much is known OD at the moment, but Kojima Productions has revealed that it is some sort of horror game and that it will feature a stellar cast. It's not at all clear what ODwill be similar, but leaked footage from 2022 suggests it will feature both first- and third-person perspectives.
According to Kojima,
OD
will use Xbox's cloud gaming technology in an unspecified way to create a “unique” and “totally new – or rather, a new form of media” style of gaming.
OD may be an Xbox exclusive at launch, but it will likely come to PlayStation sooner rather than later
Microsoft and Kojima Productions have yet to announce which platforms OD will be live, but presumably it will be an Xbox Series X/S and PC exclusive, at least for a limited time. It's possible, if not likely, that the game will arrive on rival consoles in the future. In recent months, Microsoft has expressed its intention to bring its first-party exclusives to non-Xbox platforms, most notably the PS5 and Nintendo Switch. Four of the company's games have already arrived on PlayStation and Nintendo consoles, and more are on the way. With that in mind, it wouldn't be that surprising if Microsoft decided to port OD on PS5 shortly after its debut on Xbox and PC.
Microsoft has ported
On the ground
,
Repentance
,
Race to Hi-Fi
AND
The Sea of Thieves
to PlayStation and/or Nintendo consoles in early 2024.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle
AND
Doom: The Dark Ages
two games developed by Microsoft will also arrive on PS5 in 2025.
Even if Microsoft had still been adamant about Xbox exclusivity, OD it may have come to PlayStation consoles regardless. The fact that Stranded Death it's on Xbox, despite Sony's heavy involvement in the game, is proof of that. All in all, it seems like Kojima wants to bring his games to as many platforms as possible in the future. Also, if Kojima Productions owns the rights to OD IP as it does with Stranded Deathso there's an even greater chance that the game will come to PlayStation 5 in the future.
