What are the strangest techniques in the series?

Key points

  • Devilman's Devilmite Beam had the potential to be a powerful attack due to its unique nature.
  • Yamcha's Wolf Fang Fist may be strange but it packs a punch thanks to its Ki reinforcement and claw-like attacks.
  • Gotenks' Super Ghost Kamikaze Attack is both strange and powerful, featuring ghostly entities infused with Ki.

THE Dragon Ball the franchise contributed many things to anime that have since become an industry staple, with some of the most notable aspects introduced by the series being its iconic Ki attacks. Although certainly not the first, Dragon Ball is arguably the anime that popularized the signature energy-based Ki attacks that have permeated nearly every Shonen franchise since.

However, no matter how iconic the typical Kamehameha is or how destructive a Final Flash can be, some attacks in the series are just plain silly. However, this is not to say that they are useless or bad, as, despite their strange nature in the way they are executed or simply in their appearance, they are mostly incredibly powerful. So, in this article, let's take a look at the strangest moves of the whole Dragon Ball franchising.

The fortune teller Baba Saga

Appearing soon Dragon BallDevilman is a villain that most fans of the franchise have forgotten and only remember when he is mentioned. However, his introduction into the series was memorable and his signature attack, the Devilmite Beam, had the potential to be the most powerful attack in the entire series due to the nature of how it worked.

Even the sweetest-faced good Lord has a drop of evil in his heart. I can make that little drop in you expand and expand and expand until… you're torn to pieces!

If he hadn't been retconned, Devilman could have easily taken out the series' most dangerous villains. Due to the attacks' inherent ability to bypass any defense and amplify any negative or dark feelings of his opponent, he can make the feelings so strong that the target explodes from the wave of negative emotions within. This remains one of the most unconventional and strongest moves Dragon Ball before it was nerfed.

Wolffang's fist

User: Yamcha

First appearance

Story arc

Saga of Emperor Pilaf

Although he is the Z-Fighters' resident punching bag and the butt of many of the series' most hilarious jokes, Yamcha is actually one of the most powerful humans in the world and has been a warrior for most of his life. Nowadays, he is not as powerful as the other heroes and his relevance to his time in the original Dragon Ball the show has declined significantly, but some of its techniques are still pretty strong.

Every time I see that power of yours I realize how lucky I am to be on the same side!

One such technique is the Wolf Fang Fist. However, despite being a formidable martial art technique, it is quite strange for several reasons; namely the way Yamcha uses Ki to reinforce his normal physical Ki attacks, the way he makes his hands look like claws, as well as the peculiar howl that accompanies it all. However, the Wolf Fang Punch is one of Yamcha's signature moves and is quite powerful in its own right.

The Namek Saga

When you think about the “strange” aspects of Dragon Ball franchise, the very concept of Captain Ginyu and the Ginyu Force are near the top of the list. At the time of his appearance in the story, Captain Ginyu was a very powerful warrior who proved to be a great obstacle for the heroes to overcome, especially when he used his special Body Switch technique on Goku.

That body of yours is pretty strong… Yes… and I think I'll take it!

This is an incredibly effective move when used and timed correctly, but the way it is executed is rather strange. Once the user's body has been swapped with that of their target, they have access to the full strength and abilities of the target's body as well as some of its special techniques while the target is left in Ginyu's body. If Ginyu himself took a lot of damage before the exchange, this attack is very useful.

The attack of the Super Phantom Kamikaze

User: Gotenks

First appearance

Dragon Ball ZEpisode 258, “Gotenks' Super Moves”

Debut date

March 1, 1995

Story arc

Bu Saga

Gotenks is a fan-favorite character who also holds the title of the youngest fusion of all, as his members are Trunks and Goten. Because of this, his strength is amazing but he is very rambunctious and childish, which can be seen with his entire unique moveset. From donuts made of Ki that he can completely control to trapping his opponents in Ki to play volleyball, Gotenks has the most distinct attacks of all Dragon Ball characters.

As strange as it may seem, Gotenks has belched out what appears to be the ghost of himself.

However, the strangest and most powerful attack in his arsenal is the Super Ghost Kamikaze Attack, in which he creates many ghosts from his breath that are infused with his Ki. Not only that, but these ghosts can also use attacks just like Gotenks and have their own individual personalities, making this perhaps the strangest, but also one of the most interesting attacks in the entire franchise.
