The developers of Palworld will not allow Nintendo's recently filed lawsuit to alter their plans for the future of gaming. That's according to Pocketpair's Global Community Manager, John “Bucky” Buckley, who defiantly promised to “march forward” during an interview with Game Rant about the future of Palworld at this year's Tokyo Game Show.
Considering how long it's been since the game's Early Access release, many were surprised when Nintendo announced it would be taking legal action against Pocketpair for patent infringement shortly earlier this month. This included the Pocketpair team, which, according to Bucky, had received no direct communication from Nintendo before the lawsuit was filed.

Palworld addresses recent rumors that suggested the game could go free-to-play, confirming the direction it's heading in the future.
Some analysts have speculated that the patent that Pocketpair allegedly infringed might have something to do with the creatures' capture mechanisms, though there's been no official word on whether or not that's actually the case. Somewhat surprisingly, Bucky and the Pocketpair team remain in the dark here too, with the Global Community Manager telling Game Rant that they still have no idea what they're alleged to have done wrong despite it being over a week since the lawsuit. was announced for the first time.
“We refuse to change any plan. We march forward.” – John Buckley, Global Community Lead at Pocketpair
It's worth noting that Bucky's comments aren't too dissimilar to those contained in the statement released by Pocketpair shortly after Nintendo filed the lawsuit. In particular, their promise to “ensure that independent game developers are not hindered or discouraged from pursuing their creative ideas” sends a very similar message, both to the player base and to those who would seek to stifle their creativity with threat of legal action. .
The future remains bright for Palworld
Away from the impending lawsuit, Pocketpair remains optimistic about the future Palworldand for a very good reason. The record-breaking game continues to average over 20,000 concurrent players on Steam, and PS5 sales are already “doing well” despite Palworld was released for consoles just a few days ago. The team also has a “substantial” update planned for later this year, which Bucky says has the potential to surprise many players.
