Warzone's return to Verdansk could be the gift that keeps on giving

But as is the nature of the live service genre, Verdansk wasn't meant to live forever. 2021 brought the World War II-themed Caldera Call of Duty: Warzonewhich was eventually replaced by Al Mazrah in 2022, which was itself replaced in 2023 by Urzikstan. But although it is now a distant memory, many fans were calling for the return of Verdansk. Those fans are finally getting their wish, with Verdansk set to return Call of Duty: Warzone in 2025, and hopefully it can be more than just a blast of nostalgia.

Warzone's Call of Duty: Verdansk Revival could borrow Fortnite OG's formula

It is currently unclear exactly how Verdansk will return Call of Duty: Warzonethat is, if there will be changes to the layout of the original map or to its original mechanics. The best approach to Call of Duty: WarzoneThe Verdansk Awakening could be the one to take inspiration from Fortniteand follow the OG season formula.

In November 2023, Fortnite released “Season OG,” bringing back the very first Battle Royale map of 2017. Last month, Epic Games reported Fortniteturning it into a permanent side mode that brings back the game's original map and loot. Over time, Fortnite's OG mode will gradually evolve, adding new loot and map changes in the order they originally appeared, albeit at a slightly faster pace, with new OG seasons only lasting about a month or so.

Verdansk is expected to initially return in all its original March 2020 glory, with the exact same map layout, vehicle placement, gulag rules and weapons, offering an authentic throwback experience. But as time goes by, Verdansk should be slowly updated with all the changes it received during its original lifespan, such as the 1984 redesign that came with it Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold Warand seasonal events such as “The Haunting of Verdansk”.
