Veilguard Pre-Orders Are Selling 'As Expected'

Dragon Age: The Veilguard has been open for pre-order since mid-August, with fans finally able to purchase the next entry in the series after a long ten-year wait. Now, it looks like early sales are impressing the publisher, with EA commenting that there is “strong demand” for Dragon Age.

This comes from EA’s Investors Day showcase, which was streamed last week. As noted by BioWare blogger Felassan, it was also said that Dragon Age: The Veilguard pre-order sales are “remaining within expectations.” This doesn’t give us exact numbers, but it does suggest that the series is in a good position as it approaches launch day.

During the presentation, EA commented on the early performance of The Veilguard, also talking about the reception given by fans and press to recent previews.

“This is BioWare doing what they do best: immersive storytelling, memorable characters, and a beautiful world,” says EA Entertainment President Laura Miele. “The Dragon Age community is buzzing, and the press has been really positive. The game looks fantastic on both console and PC, and we’re already seeing strong demand on the bigger platforms.”

CFO Stuart Canfield also referred to sales of The Veilguard. “We are looking forward to the launch of EA Sports FC 25 next week and Dragon Age: The Veilguard in October, both of which are currently performing as expected.”


This isn't terribly surprising news, given that the latest game in the series, Dragon Age: Inquisition, is said to be the best-selling BioWare game of all time. In fact, longtime BioWare veteran Mark Darrah recently said that the launch of Inquisition “saved the [financial] “fourth” in 2014.

EA’s confidence in The Veilguard also comes as the game finds itself the latest target in the online culture wars. This has been lurking since the reveal trailer, but it only got worse when the character creator was previewed, revealing the most detailed and inclusive customization options in a BioWare game to date. For some reason, weirdos online feel this is a bad thing, but they’ve been crying over every trailer at this point, so it’s hardly surprising.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard will be released on October 31st.
