Tony Bennett’s children go to war over his vast fortune

In a lawsuit filed this week, Tony Bennett’s daughters accused their brother of mishandling the late singer’s estate.

Antonia and Johanna Bennett allege that D’Andrea “Danny” Bennett “obtained personal benefits for himself and his company” through various transactions, including the sale of memorabilia.

The daughters also allege that Danny failed to properly account for all proceeds from the sale of Tony’s catalog to Iconoclast earlier this year.

“It is unclear what musical assets (and other property) were or were not sold as part of the transaction,” as Antonia and Johanna “were not provided with various details of the transaction despite repeated requests,” the filing said.

They said the information Danny gave his sisters only raised “more questions.”

“Although Danny and his attorney have provided fragmentary information and provided certain documents to petitioners’ counsel, the information provided raises more questions than answers and provides nothing that would approximate a description of Tony’s assets and financial affairs,” the court documents state.

Danny, who was the singer’s manager and runs the family trust, did not respond Thursday to requests for comment on the lawsuit. Another brother, Daegal “Dae” Bennett, and Tony’s widow, Susan Benedetto, are also named in the lawsuit.

Antonia and Johanna are looking for “fair relief.” Tony’s daughters demand from Danny a full accounting of the deceased singer’s trust fund activities, including receipts, expenses, disbursements and tax returns.

Tony died at the age of 96 on July 21, 2023. At the time of his death, his net worth was estimated at $200 million.

“Tony left us today, but one day he was still singing at his piano, and his last song was: By you, his first No. 1 hit,” read a post on his Instagram account announcing his death. “Tony, thanks to you, your songs will remain in our hearts forever.”

Tony’s goal in his career was to create “a catalog of hits, not hits.” He certainly did this, releasing over 70 albums after starting his career in 1949. A breakthrough moment in the singer’s life occurred in 1951, after its release By youwhich became Tony’s first No. 1 hit.

Some of his most popular releases include I left my heart in San Francisco, love for sale, cheek to cheek AND Duets II.

His last album, Love for sale, was recorded with his longtime friend and collaborator, Lady Gaga, and released in 2021. The album was actually the pair’s second album. Gaga recorded Cheek to cheek with Tony in 2014.

With the release of his second album with Gaga, Tony broke the Guinness World Record for the oldest person to release an album of new material. When the album was released on October 1, 2021, it was 95 years and 60 days old.
