Things you shouldn't buy from merchants

Key points

  • Don't waste gold on potion flasks, as they are easy to find throughout the game.
  • Basic magic items from vendors are overpriced and have a low priority for purchase.
  • It is not worth betting on belts, since unique belts are rare and not very profitable.

5 Potion flasks

They are everywhere

Mana Flask Path of Exile 2

Things have changed Path of Exile 2. Players no longer need to carry four potions in their belt, as there are now only two fixed slots: one for mana and one for life. Potions have become less complex in PoE2but be careful. Buying new flasks from sellers, even if they look better, is a bad choice. Wasting money on these items could become a long-term hindrance, as there are better options out there waiting to be found.

Path of Exile 2 gives players the choice between WASD and left click to move as motion input methods. Here's how to switch between them.

Flasks are some of the most common magical (and rare) items players might come across, and they offer various boosts depending on the RNG factor. Exploring the world and killing some monsters until they drop one or two of these potion flasks is a better idea than wasting precious gold on them. Additionally, the stats offered by vendor items are also tied to RNG and are unlikely to be better than those of dropped items.

4 Basic magic items

Overpriced and low on the priority list

Path of Exile 2 magic item

Renly and Una have a constantly replenishing supply of magical items, and some may even be rare. But if players think it's a good idea to invest in these items, think again. Spending hard-earned gold on these poorly optimized items will not bring any benefit to players. This is best saved for the late/late game stages, where gold is needed to optimize your build.

It's true that players might stumble across a good item while exploring a merchant's inventory, but even if they do, purchasing a rare ring with three modifiers for 6500 gold is never a good idea. What if, after doing so, the player finds a better one after killing a monster, opening a chest, or killing a boss? They will immediately regret spending so much gold. RNG doesn't always work in the player's favor, so it's better to be safe than sorry.

There is a free identification service

Scroll of Wisdom Path of Exile 2

Scrolls of Wisdom are useful items. They might seem like a good investment at first and are not too expensive to start with. Each scroll costs 25 gold in Una's shop, but it's not a good idea to buy them when there's a better option. As players progress through their adventure, they will come across a quest that will naturally unlock a free identifying NPC called The Hooded One.

Once you unlock this NPC, identifying objects becomes much easier and, to top it off, the service is free. Buying unnecessary Scrolls of Wisdom is a waste of gold, even if it means players will have to go back and forth between the camp and the safe zone to identify their finds and sell the loot. Consider saving gold as a long-term investment. In the end game, there is a huge demand for this currency, especially if players want to optimize their build. Save your Scroll money and use the free service instead.

2 Basic spells

Get better results by exploring and doing quests

Basic Charm Path of Exile 2

Charms are special items that can be attached to belts and protect characters from certain ailments. Buying basic charms from vendors might seem like a good idea at first. These items are quite scarce and players don't find many options to include in their builds. But, as it turns out, these items are tremendously expensive and can cost between 1000 gold and 3500 or more. Wasting gold on these basic magic items is a bad choice, especially since their stats aren't that great to begin with.

1 Gaming belts

There are only a few unique belts

The Wager of the Belt: Path of Exile 2

Gambling for items has been a part of hack-and-slash games for a while now, and Path of Exile 2 takes it to a whole new level. The ruthless RNG of its predecessor seems to be back with a vengeance, and players are already suffering the consequences.

Of all the in-game items players might feel the need to purchase, belts are among the worst possible choices. Currently, there are only a few unique belts known in the game. Betting gold in Belts is a bad idea, due to the low probability of getting one of these three. Furthermore, the bonuses they grant are not that good compared to other Rare Belts players might encounter. At the end of the day, it is a bad choice for players to waste money on this gambling item hoping that the RNG favors them.
