The Veilguard artbook explains why Solas is bald

The Dragon Age universe hides many mysteries. For example, how was the Black City blackened? Who exactly is the Architect? And do Rook's classmates really like him? While we may never have answers to some of these questions, they don't actually keep us up at night. However, there's one question that might actually have fans demanding answers.

I hate the way the endings of Dragon Age: The Veilguard are implemented

Why does getting the best ending depend less on my decisions and more on how long I've been playing?

How does Solas, an omnipotent being who defeated the literal gods, suffer from hair loss? We know he once had hair, back in the days of the revolution, but how could it all disappear, especially if he's so powerful? Is it a style choice? Why isn't BioWare responding to my emails!? It turns out the answer lies in the Dragon Age: The Veilguard artbook.

Now we know why Solas is bald

Spotted by Beautifulfeary on Reddit, The Art of Dragon Age: The Veilguard reveals many curiosities about the game's development process, the concept art and the general plot of the series, but above all about the latest chapter. It turns out that BioWare revealed the answer to one of Dragon Age's biggest mysteries in the corner of a page in the book.

“With Solas, we determined that hair loss would be the only outward indication of an ancient elf's age,” reads an excerpt beneath a sketch of Solas's glowing dome. Mystery solved. Solas is bald because he is very, very old. Not because leading a revolution is stressful or because the guilt of imprisoning his peers was eating away at him.

However, that doesn't explain why Elgar'nan came out with a full head of hair at the beginning of The Veilguerd. The excerpt goes on to explain that, get this, “Elgar wears a wig attached to his crown.” If only we knew this sooner. Instead of declaring all-out war on Elgar'nan, Rook could have just made fun of his stupid wig. The elven god of vengeance and the sun doesn't seem too scary when you know he's wearing a toupee.

Fans in the comments section had a field day with this one. “Solas and all the elves in the Mythal temple were bald, so I thought it was an age thing, then Elgar'nan came out with a full head of hair and I didn't know what to do with it,” said one comment. “Elgar'nan wearing a wig is pretty damn funny too.”

It seems that in this way we have also solved the mystery of the lack of the Greater Weave on Thedas. Turns out it was all on Elgar'nan's head.
