The new American head of the Department of Government Efficiency, Elon Musk, is about to claim he is the best Diablo 4 player in the world after reportedly beating one of the game's most difficult dungeons, The Pit, in time record.

While it hasn't been updated yet, Musk is expected to top the Helltides Pit leaderboard for his run. Unfortunately for him, the ranking is a bit unreliable.
Musk tops the Helltides Pit chart
Earlier this month, Musk went on Joe Rogan's podcast, claiming to be among the top 20 Diablo 4 players in the world, as demonstrated by the Helltides Pit leaderboard, before quitting less than a week later.
The Helltides Pit leaderboard is the closest thing Diablo 4 has to keeping track of the best players in the world. So, Musk's claims are not entirely unfounded. The problem is that the leaderboard currently only tracks 1,125 players, a mere percentage of those who actually play Blizzard's action RPG.
According to SteamDB, Diablo 4 peaked at 33,198 players in the last month, with thousands more playing the game at various times. Taking just the peak, the ranking represents about 3% of the game's players. It's safe to assume that, looking only at the game's peak numbers on a single platform, without taking into account how many people play on consoles, Helltides Pit's ranking represents far less than 1% of actual Diablo 4 players.
The second problem with the leaderboard is that the numbers are not pulled directly from the game. Instead, it relies on players uploading videos of their races to YouTube or other video-sharing platforms, which are then added to the leaderboards. This has meant that the validity of Musk's run has been further called into question, as there is no hard evidence that he is actually the one playing the game during the run.
Make no mistake, the time Musk shared, around 1:52, is very impressive. For context, the current leader ran The Pit in 1:59. It's really a shame that there's no evidence that he actually plays it. And that fact only makes him number one out of 1,125, not the game's entire player base.
An action RPG from Blizzard, Diablo 4 follows up Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls, set 30 years later. Lilith has returned, and as the Nephalem, you must prevent further destruction.
