- Ottar's loyalty to Freya goes beyond a transactional bond, as he owes her his strength and his life, being his sword and shield.
In the world of DanMachiadventurers often fight for different reasons. To gain a position in society, to help their goddess, and to achieve their Familia's goals. Among all these reasons, the one common to most of them is the desire for strength: to be on top.
Surprisingly enough, it is not the protagonist, Bell Cranel, who holds this position, although he is a top contender due to the absurd speed at which he levels up. The man considered the strongest adventurer in the series is the captain of the Freya Familia, Ottar. One of the few level 7 adventurers in the entire Orario, Ottar stands out in the DanMachi universe with its strength and determination like no other.

Ottar's difficult start
From humble beginnings to the strongest adventurer
While Ottar is currently considered the strongest adventurer, he has also had his fair share of problems reaching this position. Ottar came from the Boaz family, a family known for its bizarre strength and animalistic characteristics. Even with these characteristics inherited from Ottar, he was abandoned at a very young age and remained nameless. He had nowhere to go, wandered around the alleys of Orario and could barely fend for himself. There was no hope for him, at least until Freya found him.
Freya, the goddess of beauty, had seen Ottar in these alleys and seen the potential hidden within him. She decided to welcome him into her Familia as a means of raising him, providing him with food and shelter, along with her name. For this reason, Ottar remains eternally grateful to Freya and has pledged allegiance to her and her alone. Ottar didn't disappoint either. He capitalized on the one thing he was given by blood, polishing it with fervent determination to always be of use to Freya, which made him the adventurer he is today.
Ottar's strength and skills
The unmatched power of a level 7 adventurer
Being a level 7 adventurer, close to level 8, is no easy feat, and Ottar is a true representation of that. From the beginning, Ottar has always been engaged in fights far above his level, accumulating experience. He fought Zeus and Hera Familia's adventurers on multiple occasions, that is, before they were defeated by the One-Eyed Black Dragon, and was defeated every time. However, as things currently stand, no one in the series can match his fighting skills. His physicality, the fruit of the gift of his lineage multiplied by hard work, is now through the roof. Even ordinary weapons cannot withstand its might. He is also incredibly fast and agile for a man of his size, able to easily react to surprise attacks and even match the speed of Ais' attacks with ease.
Ottar's impressive toughness and durability make him a formidable opponent, but his strength is only part of his arsenal. Ottar is able to use the magical ability Hildis Vini, a magical ability that strengthens the user and the intensity of their attacks. Despite being such a simple skill, in the hands of Ottar, whose physical capabilities are already through the roof, it is a deadly move. His attacks travel with enough shockwaves to cause damage on their own. As if he wasn't already strong enough, he is capable of becoming savage through Bestification, amplifying his already deadly strength and increasing his ferocity, along with the transformation of his nails into claws. He has also gained enough control over the ferocious side of this ability: enough violence to be sane while wreaking havoc. While this puts a strain on his mind, he also has the ability to heal himself and his mind, making him an even more dangerous beast.
The legendary feats of Freya's strongest warrior
Unparalleled triumphs of DanMachi's most formidable adventurer
Standing at the pinnacle of strength, Ottar has demonstrated feats that leave even his fellow adventurers in awe. His most astounding feat is his solo fight against the 49th floor's boss, Balor. Balor is a boss-level monster that requires a party of level 5 or 6 adventurers to defeat, and Ottar fought him alone. Even Tione was glad that her group didn't encounter Balor. Unfortunately, Ottar was unable to defeat him completely. However, he left the monster half-dead despite being half-dead himself, managing to return to the surface from the 49th floor on his own.
During the Great Faction War, Ottar was even able to take on Bell, Mia, Hedin, and Ryu simultaneously without breaking a sweat. At the same time, this team of adventurers also upgraded their skills, and he was still a match for them. Although he was defeated later, he managed to eliminate three out of four, only needing a break to handle the last one. On top of that, Ottar single-handedly defeated Udeaus, the monster from the 39th floor, shook the city of Orario in his battle with Zard during the great feud, and also endured over 500 orbs of lightning along with fire bolts that would have been the end of a typical adventurer.
Loyalty to Freya
The unbreakable bond behind Ottar's power
The bond between adventurers and their gods is usually transactional, only to fulfill their respective roles in their Familias. However, the bond that Ottar and Freya share goes beyond that: a bond built on mutual respect and devotion. In Ottar's eyes, he owes his life to Freya and is extremely loyal to her, holding her in the highest regard. Insulting Freya is like spitting in his face, and he doesn't take it lightly. Her act of kindness pushed him to become what he is today, as all his efforts were to become strong for her. Freya is the center of her world and Freya knows it well.
The respect is also reciprocated by Freya, who has a lot of faith in Ottar's abilities. Knowing that the strongest adventurer in all of Orario is in her Familia certainly keeps her at ease. Ottar serves as the Familia's sword and shield, protecting its members and their reputation. She also sees him as a pillar of support, someone who will always be on her side, even if she's wrong. This beautiful bond is what drove Ottar to seek the strength to become Orario's strongest adventurer and still drives him to remain the strongest.
