The long-awaited Elbaf story arc of the One piece the series is here; However, it seems that Oda plans to explore a mini adventure before the Straw Hats begin to uncover the mysteries of the giants. After successfully escaping Egghead Island, the Straw Hats celebrate and drink on the Giant's ship, drinking Absinthe: “The Green Fairy!”.
This alcohol has left fans of One piece series that questions whether the Straw Hats are actually hallucinating or whether something else is going on. While inconclusive, the various consistent inconsistencies have led many to believe that these are true hallucinations, and their hallucinations contain many of the series' signature humorous moments during the pre-time jump arcs.
The beer of the giants
A recipe for chaos
What exactly is Giants beer? So far no one knows the answer to this question, as the only clues are the name and its supposed effects. Giants are a legendary breed in the One piece series that has just been explored. Due to their mysterious and extraordinary nature, it is common for them to have a unique beer. However, the Green Fairy's effects might be a bit too much for the Straw Hats.
Interestingly, absinthe is a unique liquor that is historically described as a “highly alcoholic spirit” in the real world. This legendary drink that Oda gave to the giants is widely known to be a hallucinogen. As seen with the alleged hallucinations of the Straw Hats, hallucinogens induce “altered states of consciousness,” which fits well with what the Straw Hats are dealing with rather than simply portraying them as seeing what isn't. In real life, absinthe comes from a “Grand Wormwood”, a plant. In the world of One Piece, this makes it highly plausible that the Giant's drink was obtained from the impressive Yggdrasil tree. Yggdrasil, known literally as the World Tree, has yet to be explored in depth in the series, but is seen in the Straw Hats' hallucinations. As is typical of Oda, the One Piece writer appears to foreshadow and drop hints about Elbaf before the Straw Hats land on the island.
The Straw Hats and Beer
Hallucinations and humorous moments
While fans patiently wait for the current events in the world of One Piece to unfold, fans are enjoying the many critical and entertaining events that have occurred with the alleged hallucinations. Oda is known for being very detailed in his work; however, Chapter 1127 of the series portrays inconsistencies and unique architecture. The very castle Nami wakes up in appears to be made of Lego. Eiichiro Oda is known to be a fan of Lego, although he is unlikely to ever incorporate it into his One piece series. At least, that's what many thought before recently One piece chapter.
In terms of inconsistencies, Luffy is seen without his straw hat, a key accessory for the Straw Hat Captain. Despite the various outfits she wore in One piece of the series, he is always seen with his straw hat, even if it will be under a hat that he will wear. However, this time, Luffy is only seen in giant clothes, without his precious hat. Additionally, one of the most telling signs is the Straw Hat Captain announcing “Gear Fourth” but using a Gear Third attack.
Aside from the many inconsistencies and speculations, chapter 1127 is fantastic. The chapter perfectly captures humorous moments similar to those of The One Piece one pre-time jump. The duo Nami and Usopp are also seen arguing while on the brink of death. Usopp thinking he's hallucinating and allowing the cat monster to hit him is downright hilarious. Furthermore, Nami decides to kick Usopp while he is on the ground and uses him as a shield from the cat monster who transforms into a lion and proclaims him dead shortly after the Trio of Monsters arrive. Meanwhile, as always, Nami and Usopp run and fight for their lives while the Monster Trio “takes it easy”, looking for a way to cook and eat the monsters. Overall, the chapter brings back a lot of fun moments that the series is known for. With the recent Wano and Egghead story arcs coming with plenty of suspense, this serves as a breather for fans.
The role of giants beer
A possible omen
Chapter 1127 is undoubtedly entertaining, but as always, fans of the One piece they want to get to the bottom of the mystery, especially the mixture of Hallucinogenic Giants. Usually, story arcs like this one, which are similar to the Ocean's Dream arc, the Warship Island arc, and the G8 arc, are often filler. However, the filler episodes are only embedded in the file One piece anime series and not manga, ruling out the possibility that this is purely a filler story arc.
Alternatively, some believe that the Straw Hats' alleged hallucinations may not only be due to the Giant's ale but to Loki, the Prince of Elbaf himself. After all, why use a name belonging to an evil god without incorporating evil itself? Very little is known about Loki, other than the fact that he is the prince of Elbaf, who wanted to marry into the Big Mom family. With his high position, Loki could also be the author of recent events, hypnotizing pirates right as they entered Elbaf.
So far, the Giants mix has been used to portray humor in relation to the Straw Hat Pirates, while also introducing fans to many terms, such as Yggdrasil and a God with Mighty Ears, a way for Oda to incorporate and foreshadow events and stories important.
One piece is available to watch on Crunchyroll.
