THE release date of Lunar Remastered Collection has been announced and is scheduled to launch on April 18th. The highly anticipated remaster was developed by Game Arts and published by GungHo Online Entertainment. This duology collection will bring the first two Lunar You play modern console games with updated graphics, re-recorded soundtracks, and several quality-of-life additions. Lunar Remastered Collection will be available on all console and PC platforms via Steam.
Lunar Remastered Collection was announced during a Sony State of Play in 2024, surprising many fans of past JRPGs. The series debuted in 1992 with Lunar: the silver star for the Sega CD, followed by a sequel in 1994 called Lunar: Eternal blue. Both games received titled remakes for the PlayStation and Sega Saturn Lunar: Silver Star story completed AND Lunar 2: Eternal Blue completed. Until today, Lunar is considered one of the best RPGs for the Sega Saturn, so seeing a collection that includes remastered versions of these classics is something that many fans are excited about.

GungHo Online Entertainment recently announced this Lunar Remastered Collection launches April 18 for PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC, with compatibility for current-gen consoles. Physical editions will be available in select stores in North America and Europe. The return of Lunar includes some changes expected for contemporary remasters, such as widescreen support, revamped pixel art, and high-definition cutscenes. However, nostalgic players can switch to Classic Mode at any time, simulating the graphics of the PS1 era.

More additions in Lunar Remastered Collection include fully voiced dialogue in Japanese and English, and newly added French and German subtitles. Gameplay-wise, the collection will feature a combat acceleration command and new strategies to streamline party members for auto-battle. These quality-of-life features, designed to streamline or speed up combat, have become standard in remasters and remakes of older JRPGs. For example, Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake allows players to speed up combat and upcoming combat Suikoden 1 and 2 remastered in HD will also include a similar addition.
THE Lunar The series continues a trend where JRPGs from the past are given a new lease on life on modern platforms. It is not clear whether the Lunar Remastered Collection will be financially successful. However, considering that Game Arts and GungHo Online Entertainment have already collaborated to bring the Grandia HD Collection to modern platforms and are now repeating the formula with other series, these results may have been positive.
