What is the Holy Kingdom?
Also known as the Holy Kingdom, the Holy Kingdom is a country defended by a Great Wall that remained at peace for a long time until an army of demi-humans attacked the country, led by the demon emperor Jaldabaoth. The Liberation Army then requests help from Aizen's Sorcerer Kingdom in a desperate attempt to save the country, considering that the Sorcerer Kingdom and the Holy Kingdom do not have good relations.
The Holy Kingdom was founded 200 years before the story, after defeating the evil deities, whose national hero is a Valkyrie knight. It is divided into the Northern Sacred Kingdom and the Southern Sacred Kingdom.
What is the story of Overlord about?
Overlord takes place in a fictional “DMMORPG” (highly immersive games in which players can “completely immerse themselves”, like more sophisticated VR technology) titled Yggdrasilwhose servers would soon be shut down. One player, known in the game as Momonga (later known as Ainz Ooal Gown), wants to enjoy the game for as long as possible. However, once the time comes, he is still in the game and all the other characters seem to have gained their own personalities. Then Momonga, who is a powerful magician, decides to continue living there.
The story was originally a novel self-published by Kugane Maruyama from 2010 to 2012, later acquired and compiled by Enterbrain in Japan, with 16 volumes published so far. Yen Press publishes the novel and a manga adaptation in the United States.
In 2015, the first season aired in Japan. Both the second and third seasons debuted in 2018. Then, in 2022, the fourth season was finally released. With 52 episodes, all seasons retained most of the core staff. The film was announced in 2021, along with the fourth season.
All seasons of Overlord can be watched on Crunchyroll, both subbed and dubbed.
