PC games tend to offer a lot more variety and versatility than console games. Many indie games only launch on PC, you can install mods to tweak your experience to your liking, and you can also tailor the setup to suit your preferences. Looking ahead to 2025, there are quite a few games waiting to take advantage of this.

Both legacy games and newcomers have earned their place.
From horror to strategy to role-playing games, there's a myriad of games waiting for us in 2025. Here's what our editorial team is looking forward to, so you can add them to your most anticipated lists.
darkwebStreamer
Ben Sledge, features editor
I've got my eye on darkwebStreamer. The procedurally generated indie horror has a “coming soon” release date only on Steam, but fingers crossed we'll see it in 2025. Set on the '90s network, the game has you playing as an occult streamer trying to making a living in the seedier corners of the world wide web.
The only problem is that if you don't become the biggest streamer in the world, you die. With spooky rituals, creepy NPCs, and an increasingly haunted apartment, I expect to be squirming in my seat when darkwebStreamer connects to my Steam library, hopefully sometime next year.

I don't play many PC games, I prefer consoles for pretty much everything, so when I think of PC games I'm most looking forward to in 2025, I think of indie games that will only be available on PC. This brings me to Earthblade, which has only been announced for Steam so far.
The sequel to Celeste from Extremely OK Games, which tends to make Extremely Much Better Than OK games, should channel the same fervor for discovery, but with more action. We haven't heard anything about the game since it was revealed in 2021 and showcased at The Game Awards in 2022, except for a statement delaying it from 2024 to 2025. I bet it'll be worth the wait.
Demonschool
Hilton Webster, staff writer
I have always been attracted to strategy games. Final Fantasy Tactics, Into The Breach, you get the point. I love having to look at every angle and really think about how I'm going to survive. Put that in a horror-filled college environment and I'm sold.
Demonschool has been rolling out for a long time now and I'm confident that 2025 will be the year I can finally get my hands on it. It has a wonderful, sharp art style and the tactical elements are just as strong as the relationships you build with the characters. Because fighting terrifying demons is only half the battle when you still have to attend school.

Firaxis Games
When I think of PC gaming, I think of Civilization. I eagerly awaited the latest iteration of the series and spent hundreds of hours between Civilization 5 and Civilization 6. Both games, like the civilizations you create, have managed to stand the test of time.
Civilization will test the formula, as new games in the series tend to do, introducing changes to civilization, similar to Humankind's format. I'm intrigued by the potential of this and I'm also a little cautious about it. However, if Firaxis has proven anything over the years, it's that it knows how to make a good Civilization game. I think the new formula is in good hands.

I remember the halcyon days of Fable 3, when I rented out slums to make millions and showed my evil brother that being a benevolent ruler was possible. The idea of returning to the whimsical world of Fable is exciting to say the least, and from what little we've seen, we're going to have fun.
Despite the memes and outrage that the heroine isn't gorgeous, I can't wait to see more. The glamorous fantasy is over the top and the gritty Witcher style environments are too much for me. Fable walks the middle line with the perfect blend of magic and errors to experiment with, and I'm ready to wreak havoc on Albion again.

As I grew to love roguelikes, I started keeping an eye out for particularly promising ones. From Dead Cells to Risk of Rain 2, there has been no shortage of phenomenal indie titles that have consistently kept me dying and entertained. And you know what looks promising for next year? 33 immortals.
You and up to 32 other players will have a cooperative multiplayer roguelike experience where you'll all try to escape from some sort of hellscape by fighting wave after wave, boss after boss, trial after trial. The fact that your team of escapees can be so large is a huge draw for me. I can't wait to see what kind of shenanigans I can pull off 32 other people all trying to achieve the same goal that has been true of roguelikes over the years: survive.

Civ 7 is the most anticipated game of 2025, full stop, not just on PC. February will be a busy month, but for me the decision on which selection to take from the Triple-A Buffet was written in the stars when I first launched New Game on Civilization 2.
I've also tentatively set my sights on Might And Magic: Olden Era, which will enter Early Access mid-year. A return to form for Heroes of Might and Magic would be welcome, but given how far the series has fallen, the game will have to completely wow me to have a redemption arc.

Let's be honest: shooting Nazis never gets old, and the Sniper Elite series understands that. With the return of the iconic X-ray kill cam in Sniper Elite: Resistance, who could resist watching a Nazi breaking a femur in stunning slow-motion detail? …Still?
With the promise of smarter enemies, next-gen graphics, and ballistics seemingly so precise they might as well teach physics, I'm cautiously optimistic that Resistance will live up to expectations. Add 16-player competitive multiplayer and expanded accessibility, and by 2025 I'll be lining up (hopefully decent) shots and savoring every explosion. Resistence? More like I can't resist.

Ever since I first played Vice Undercover at Gamescom, I've been anxiously awaiting its full release. Set in an alternative 80s where the Internet already exists, you play as an undercover agent trying to uncover the cartel's digital secrets.
You'll use and explore a retro 80's operating system with old-fashioned programs and databases that you'll have to sift through to find clues and solve various objectives. I found it absolutely captivating and can't wait to play it again.
