The Masked Singer Australia: Shane Warne’s daughter Summer unmasked

WARNING: Masked Singer spoilers below.

The Masked Singer had teased that this week’s show would feature a reveal that would “melt Australalia’s hearts.” And she certainly melted hearts on the judging panel when, after a performance of the Coldplay classic Yellow, the ‘Bad Avocado’ was revealed to be …

… Summer Warne, daughter of late cricketing legend Shane Warne.

Warne, 21, is the youngest child of Shane – who died in March last year aged 52 – and Simone Callahan.

And there were tears when she told the panel that she performed as a tribute to her late father, who always encouraged her to pursue a singing career. And the Coldplay song she chose to sing was performed at her father’s funeral by none other than Chris Martin.

“That was his favourite Coldplay song. It’s such a significant song to me and my family,” she explained.

Elsewhere in Monday’s episode, Darren Hayes – whoops, I mean the Grim Reaper – performed a stellar rendition of the Sam Smith hit Unholy, while the Space Fairy’s performance of Always On My Mind left me more convinced than ever that she’s Aussie Sweet About Me singer Gabriella Cilmi.

Last week, we took some educated guesses about the identity of the remainder of the contestants on this season – our picks include Hayes, Cilmi, a US TV starlet and TV judge on a rival network.

This was the third celebrity to be revealed on The Masked Singer this season, with 90s Beverly Hills, 90210 heart throb Brian Austin Green unmasked in week one, and Ten’s veteran newsreader Sandra Sully revealed in week two.

Meanwhile, news.com.au went behind the scenes of The Masked Singer during filming in Sydney recently – all the way to Mel B’s dressing room, in fact.

We sat down with the Spice Girl to get the goss on her upcoming wedding, her recent move back to her hometown in Northern England, and what she and the other Spice Girls have planned for their next comeback – yes, she insists, all five of them.

The Masked Singer continues 7:30pm next Monday on Ten.
