The forgotten Xbox 360 game is getting a remake

Platypusa classic Xbox 360 shooter from days gone by, is getting a full remake for modern platforms called Regenerated platypus. Although the original game debuted on PC in the early 2000s, it was later ported to consoles, including the Xbox 360. Regenerated platypus is developed by Claymatic Games and will be released in 2025.

The original Platypus it first launched on PC only in 2002 as a side-scrolling shooter developed by Squashy Software and published by Idigicon. It became a PSP exclusive in 2006 until it was finally released on the Xbox 360 in 2009 via Xbox Live Indie Games. A sequel called Platypus 2 was also released in 2007. Although shooting games remain popular, the Platypus series didn't seem to stand the test of time as well as other franchises. Luckily for nostalgic gamers, the game has been revived for several modern platforms.

Claymatic Games has revealed the official trailer for Regenerated platypusa remake of the classic Platypus coming to PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. The remastering is driven by the original Platypus designer and creator Anthony Flack. “22 years after its first appearance, the iconic Platypus is returning, with updated gameplay, new weapons and additional content,” reads the official description of Regenerated platypus. Even though the Xbox 360 store closed earlier this year, memorable Xbox 360 games have made a comeback, and now Platypus joins the list.

Platypus Relayed announced for 2025

In Regenerated platypusplayers enter Collosatropolis, a once-prosperous city that is now dominated by pollution. To escape its decay, the citizens seek expansion in the nearby city of Mungola. Players take on the role of the F-27 “Platypus”, a squadron of fighter planes that form Collosatropolis' last line of defense in Mungola. Regenerated platypus offers fans 4K widescreen and can be played solo or co-op. Both shared and split screen options are available. According to Claymatic, the remake was reprogrammed from the ground up to accommodate modern hardware. Considering that Xbox 360 consoles occasionally experience performance issues, an updated version may be more convenient for fans. Regenerated platypus is confirmed for release in 2025, and players can already add it to their Steam wishlist.

Many gamers still consider the Xbox 360 the winner of the seventh-generation console wars. Despite the market closure, some fans still keep their Xbox 360 units, either for nostalgia or as a collector's item.
