How SMILE fruits are created

The SMILE Devil Fruit is a Zoan-type artificial fruit used to create artificial Devil Fruit users. SMILE is a product of Caesar Clown with assistance from Bloodline Elements. Dr. Vegapunk and Judge Vinsmoke discovered these Brood Elements while part of a “lawless research group”.

The Elements of the Bloodline are the blueprints of life itself, and those who possess the Devil Fruits can study their power; Caesar then expanded on this research by developing a drug called SAD, a crucial ingredient needed to make SMILE.

Although Caesar Clown was the lead scientist for the production of the SAD liquid, he also collaborated with Donquixote Doflamingo, who sold and distributed the SMILE fruit to, at the time, one of the Four Emperors, Kaido of the Beast Pirates, with the SMILE Fruits, Kaido planned to equip his Beast Pirate crew with artificially Zoan-type fruit users.

The collaboration between Doflamingo and Caesar worked perfectly, as Caesar went on to create the SAD liquid on Punk Hazard; Doflamingo used his influence to protect him and the production of the product.
