The Boys creator hits out at fans who have slammed the show for ‘going woke’

Creator of an extremely popular television series Boys has a message for outspoken fans who have sparked a boycott of the latest series, claiming the series has “woke up.”

After its fourth season debuted on Amazon Prime this month, the series found itself at the center of a social media firestorm — and not just because of its wild sex scene.

For those unfamiliar with the series, it is a dark and satirical exploration of the “what if Superman was evil” trope.

Homelander’s main character has been used since the first season as an allegory for themes including conservatism, toxic masculinity, patriotism, and the danger of unchecked power. The latest season also shows that this is not a subtle resemblance to Donald Trump.

However, most of this information seems to have gone unnoticed by some angry viewers who have apparently only just realized the main message of the show and are not happy about it.

In the first episode of the fourth season, one particular scene apparently pushed a small but vocal minority to begin boycotting the show, all because a character was revealed to be bisexual.

In response to criticism that resulted in a “rotten” audience rating being turned on for the first time in the show’s history Rotten tomatoescreator Eric Kripke told them to “go watch something else” and deal with it.

“I definitely have a perspective and I don’t hesitate to bring it to the show,” the creator said in response to the backlash. “Anyone who wants to call the show ‘woke’ or whatever, there’s nothing wrong with that. Go watch something else. But I’m certainly not going to hit anyone or apologize for what we do.

He added: “Some people who watch this think Homelander is a hero. What do you say? There are many things in the program. Subtle is not one of them. So if that’s the message for you, I just throw up my hands.

After the first few episodes became available on Prime this month, social media platforms like Twitter and Reddit were filled with angry comments criticizing the series, with many saying they had given up on it for good.

Boys “being fully woken up in season 4 is the most anticipated and yet disappointing thing,” complained one fan, with the tweet receiving thousands of retweets and comments in response, and a TikTok video criticizing the authors for “making Frenchie gay” being “liked” over 100 000 times.

“It was really hard to survive seeing how bad it is now. It used to be so good. It would mock the absurdities of woke people, but now it has become what they were making fun of,” another viral tweet complained. “Honestly, I don’t think I can stand watching it anymore. Sad to see this.

Some viewers poked fun at the reaction, saying the show was always “woke,” with one saying: “I like the fact that fools are calling right NOW Boys woke up. It’s amazing how stupid people can be.

“Are the people calling #theboys season 4 woke too or were they too political and forgot what show they were watching?” laughed another. “It was always political. This is a parody. Imagine that you only now realize that you have been ridiculed all this time.
