The best quotes from Mario and Luigi: Brotherhood

Hearing Mario's voice for the first time in SuperMario64 was a real treat in 1996. Now Mario has spoken in too many games to count, but he's not as expressive with his animations in most games. This is except the Mario&Luigi series. As limited as the Game Boy Advance was, developer AlphaDream managed to give Mario and Luigi a lot of expression Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga.

Mario & Luigi: Brotherhood: the best accessories for the first games

Players don't have to wait too long to get their hands on solid accessories in Mario & Luigi: Brothership. These are best for early game gear.

However, they never spoke complete sentences and instead stammered in garbled fake Italian. While they don't speak Mario and Luigi: Brotherhood furthermore, their facial animations have increased thanks to the even more anime-inspired art style. No one else is talking about it, but that doesn't mean the game doesn't have quality lines. There will be spoilers in this breakdown of the best.

8 “Fire Extinguisher Corps.”

Zokket

Zokket in the Mario and Luigi Brotherhood

  • Location: Great Lighthouse Island

Zokket is the game's main villain whose identity is never truly revealed until the end. He will first appear to the group on the Isle of the Great Lighthouse along with his squadron of minions called the Extension Corps. This is the nickname adopted by Ecks, Shun and Ten, but Zokket doesn't care what their names are. It's his part throughout the game, from calling his own minions “Exstinker Corps” to calling Mario “Snore-io” and Luigi “Too easy” at one point. Great villains in RPGs don't have to worry about names to be bad.

7 “Lounging!”

Allow, Dulles, Ireen and Loog

Inactive team in Mario & Luigi Brothership

  • Location: Desolatt Island

Team Idle consists of Enable, Dulles, Ireen and Loog. They're the best version of the Extension Corps in the game, and they're also all kids trying to act like heroes. Their love of poses, slogans and color coordination is reminiscent of the Power Rangers. Players will first encounter them on Desolatt Island, performing their small formation when Mario and Luigi arrive. It couldn't have gotten worse as the brothers stood in silence, unsure of how to take this enthusiasm as they shouted “Idle!”

6 “Oh, come on!”

Koopa brothers

  • Location: Skorcheen Island

Players will mainly deal with Zokket and his team of friends during the game. However, about halfway through the game, players will face more familiar enemies as Bowser is trying to conquer this new land as well. One example occurs on Skorcheen Island when players will come across three Koopa Bros., all color-coordinated like the rest of the large groups in Mario and Luigi: Brotherhood.

Knock out the competition with some awesome boot and hammer finds.

They initially greet Mario and Luigi with friendly intentions, saying that they are just trying to find their leader, aka Bowser. They walk away, wishing them good luck, and then turn to mock the plumbers as if walking away from a fight. It's a nice fake.

5 “Orally!”

Vulko

Vulko in the Mario and Luigi Brotherhood

  • Location: Shipsshape Island

Vulko is one of the village leaders of the Fire and Ice Islands in the game. Towards the end of the game, Zokket begins poisoning people with negative energy, including the Ice Tribe's prince, Chilliam. To cure his status ailment Mario and Luigi: BrotherhoodVulko shoves a heart-shaped turnip-looking plant into Chilliam's mouth, exclaiming that the only way to cure him is through his pie hole. It's one of the strangest lines in the game, and even the citizens of Shipshape Island are shocked. As strange as the action is, this vegetable cures the Chilliam and later becomes a central element of the plot.

4 “I have no data on that.”

Technique

Technikki in the Mario and Luigi Brotherhood

  • Location: Great Lighthouse Island

There's another great scene with the Team Idle guys. The volunteer must break into the second fortress of Great Lighthouse Island via a rockstar ship. The inventor, Technikki, isn't sure if it will work and if they will survive, but they do it anyway because these little heroes want to be useful. When they crash, there's a very anime-like death scene played for comedy. Right after Peach asks if they're okay, Technikki responds with the data line. Just to clarify, obviously, babies don't die in a… Mario game.

3 “Wilma!”

Hotel manager

Talking to the hotel manager on Lottacoins Island in Mario & Luigi Brothership

  • Location: Lottacoins Island

Wilma is one of the larger NPCs that players will soon encounter. He is the chief of Rumbla Island, a place dedicated to the creation of fine rock art. Apparently it's pretty infamous because players can later take on a side quest Mario and Luigi: Brotherhood called The Courier, which involves her.

The hotel manager on Lottacoins Island wants them to deliver a package but only if they don't look. After delivering it, the plumbers and the manager's assistant go to take a look and discover that the package was a statue of Wilma. Furthermore, the manager heavily praises her beauty, screaming her name with the same passion that Fred Flintstone screams “Wilma!” In The Flintstones cartoon.

2 “Did you wash your hands?”

Ten

The Extension Corps in Mario & Luigi Brothership

  • Location: Slippenglide Island

The scenes involving the aforementioned Extension Corps are filled with hilarious one-liners. One of the best scenes occurs towards the end, when Mario and Luigi have to gather Bond's energy from strong groups. When the plumbers encounter the Extension Corps, one of the members, Ecks, is in the bathroom. It is implied that he did not wash his hands, prompting Ten to have Shun switch places in line when they hold hands for a further bonding ceremony. Ten did not want to hold Ecks' hand which may or may not have been washed. It was a risk he wasn't willing to take.

1 “Being connected to someone else means you can do things you can't do alone.”

Connie

Imprisoned in the Mario and Luigi Brotherhood

Mario and Luigi: Brotherhood a game through and through made famous by Stranded Death. In other words, Mario and Luigi: Brotherhood is about bonds, and the main villain, Reclusa, has no bonds to speak of. They wanted to tear the world apart out of jealousy because they thought bonds were stupid. That's when Connie corrects him right before Reclusa finally disappears after the final battle. Connie points out that people can achieve more with others than alone, which is a good life lesson to bring back to reality.
