Fully 100 percenting a game is a big accomplishment, especially for truly great titles or incredibly hard ones. However, on PlayStation, there are many games that bizarrely don’t have a platinum trophy at all. With how hard some of these trophy lists are, it’s a huge letdown to not receive that platinum.

Not getting that big juicy platinum after all that work just sucks, especially when many of these games have a full 1,000 gamerscore over on Xbox. These titles are amazing, and it would be great if you could add their platinums to your collection, but that, sadly, isn’t the case.

10 Outlast

One of the more fun, spooky games from the early 2010s was Outlast. It had a solid story, a great atmosphere, and was tense as all hell. The achievement list is brutal on both PlayStation and Xbox, requiring you to complete Insane mode, which is the same as Nightmare, except you can’t die a single time.

You also can’t use the nifty speedrun strategy to skip almost the entire game, which is a big bummer. You’ll have to battle your nerves just as well as avoid the enemies since you die so fast here. With such a challenge, a platinum trophy would be great, but there is none.

A Phenomenal Prologue

About a year and a half before the release of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain came its prologue, Ground Zeroes. It’s really good for what it is, giving you a sweet bite-sized look at what you’d see in the core game. Its trophy list is nothing special in terms of difficulty, but will take some time. You’ll have to replay missions for the S ranks and the optional trophies and collectibles.

The most time-consuming is unlocking all the trials, as you’ll have to mark every enemy in a single mission. You’ll search for some time before you spot them all. A platinum trophy would be great, as it just looks better on your profile, considering Phantom Pain does have one. On Xbox, both titles have 1,000 gamerscore, and it looks great with both 100 percented side-by-side.

8 Trials Fusion

This Trophy List Is Criminal

Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC

Lowkey, one of the best series in Ubisoft’s catalog is Trials. The games just have a magical formula with their gameplay, user-generated content, and skill ceiling. They’re also brutally difficult, and the trophy list reflects this. The big one has to be Is There Anything You Can’t Do? which forces you to beat all 120 challenges in the main game.

Not only does this take an absurd amount of time, but some of them are just dastardly. Pipe Phobia is probably the most frustrating, while Top Roach requires the most skill. All of this for no platinum. What? This is a crime. There’s not even any gold trophies. Is There Anything You Can’t Do? surely deserves to be one.

7 Apex Legends

An Odd Omission

Apex Legends is one of the best multiplayer FPS titles you can play right now. Developed by Respawn Entertainment, it provides the same stellar multiplayer offering akin to their previous games. It’s also free-to-play, which is important regarding its trophy list.

Apex Legends has no platinum, and most will chalk that up to its free-to-play nature. Except that doesn’t make sense because there are plenty of platinum trophies for free-to-play games, including stuff like Fortnite and Rocket League. For Apex to be missing a platinum is just odd to see and quite baffling.

6 Sonic Mania

The Blue Blur Finally Returns To Its Former Glory

Sonic Mania

Released

Developer(s)
PagodaWest Games , Headcannon

After so many lackluster instalments, Sonic Mania was the best Sonic title in a really long time. It felt like the true Sonic 4 in terms of movement and level design, and arguably the best 2D Sonic game out there. The fan service was also great, with a ton of Sonic characters returning.

Considering how much it revitalized the series, at least to many, it just makes sense for the game to have a platinum trophy. There’s none in sight, however. To add insult to injury, there’s not any gold trophies either. For a game that’s so important to the Sonic franchise, this is just a disgrace.

5 Firewatch

A Must-Play Narrative Adventure Game

Publisher(s)

It’s unfortunate many gamers dismiss adventure titles like Firewatch due to the fact that you can’t die. If you actually give Firewatch a try, you’ll likely be sucked in by its story and intrigue. With a solid premise, Firewatch unwraps its plot like a great novel, and you just have to keep playing to see what happens next.

A missing platinum is understandable for this game. You see, Firewatch was first launched on PlayStation 4 and then released on Xbox seven months later. There was some additional content not originally present at launch, which is why there are five trophies in the core game compared to ten on Xbox. Nevertheless, a platinum trophy would still be great for this title.

4 Machinarium

Another Stellar Adventure Title

The prison area of Machinarium

Release Year

Platforms

2009

PC, Mac, Linux, iOS, Android, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, PlayStation Vita

If you’re into point-and-click adventure games, Machinarium is a definite must-play. First, the art style is gorgeous and feels akin to the works of Mateusz Skutnik, who did the Submachine series. The world is simply fascinating to see here.

Playing as a robot, you can flatten yourself or raise higher, leading to some interesting and engaging puzzles. It’s such a good adventure game; you would like a platinum trophy despite there being none. At least you get a gold trophy on the list, which is more than can be said about other games with a missing platinum.

3 DuckTales Remastered

A Unique Case

The Himalayas level in DuckTales Remastered

Release Year

Platforms

2013

Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U, PC

Digital-only PS3 games, for the most part, never had platinum trophies. That only really kicked into high gear starting with the PS4, so it wasn’t a surprise to see DuckTales Remastered lacking one. Despite the name, it’s truly a remake of the classic NES title and absolutely amazing. They did such a good job modernizing the gameplay and levels for the modern age.

The trophy scenario here has a catch because this game did eventually receive a physical release. An Xbox 360 disc copy actually uses a separate achievement list for a full 1,000 gamerscore instead of just 400. You would think the PS3 would have something similar, but nope. It’s the same trophy list. PlayStation users definitely got the shaft here.

2 Max Payne

Just Not Right For Such A Game-Changing Title

The number of PS2 classics on PS4 was relatively small, but some of the best on there were from Rockstar Games. Most of its catalog of PS2 classics had a platinum trophy, including Bully, Manhunt, and the PS2 GTA Trilogy. Only three titles missed out on a platinum trophy. Red Dead Revolver and The Warriors are two of them, and while that sucks, they aren’t some of the biggest Rockstar titles.

What should have a platinum is the genre-defining action game Max Payne. This title still holds up in its fun factor and has so much influence on the action genre today. It’s the only Rockstar property to have a movie adaptation, for crying out loud. For Max Payne to not have a platinum is just not okay.

1 Resident Evil 4 (2005)

No Platinums On Sale, Stranger

Outside a castle in Chapter 4-3 in classic Resident Evil 4

Resident Evil 4
Platform(s)
Nintendo GameCube , PlayStation 2 , PC , Nintendo Wii , Wii U , iOS , Xbox 360 , PS3 , PS4 , Xbox One , Xbox One X , Android , Oculus Quest 2

Released
January 11, 2005

By far, the most frustrating absent platinum that many are still mad about is the original Resident Evil 4. First, some history. The original achievement lists debuted with the 2011 HD version on Xbox 360 and PS3. Even then, PlayStation gamers were treated like second-class citizens. The PS3 port had no platinum, while the 360 version had a full 1,000 gamerscore, uncommon for a digital-only title at the time.

Jump to 2016 when RE4 was launched on the next generation of consoles, and PlayStation users fully expected a platinum trophy this time. Well, they got screwed again. For such a legendary title that’s commonly regarded as not only the best of the series but one of the greatest games of all time, there’s no excuse for a missing platinum.
