Once you’ve gotten a handful of hours into Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince, you’ll reach the Maulosseum, where, despite Psaro’s rapid rise from Rank G to F back at the Endor Colosseum, he’ll start off at Rank G again. Blast through this initial rank, and you’ll finally have unlocked monster synthesis, otherwise known as the coolest thing in the game.

Which Dragon Quest Monster Are You Based On Your Zodiac Sign?

We take a look at all the Dragon Quest monsters that represent each Zodiac sign.

Here’s where the fun truly begins, as you’ll begin mixing two monsters into a new one while helping to individualize your creation along the way. It can be tricky to get the hang of, and you don’t want rough results! Try fusing the following beasties.

5 Lunatick

Lunatick being scouted in Dragon Quest Monsters The Dark Prince

Lunatick’s three stars in Wisdom stand out neatly in the early game, and its innate talent, Thrill-Seeker, is worthy of consideration. It can dish out some real damage with Crack, and you can find it prior to dealing with the Maulosseum Rank G matches where it’ll be put to good use. Of course, you won’t be able to do anything else with Lunatick other than level it prior to beating Rank G, but it’s a good idea to scout it ahead of schedule so you’ve put some levels into it in preparation for synthesis.

You’ll find Lunaticks in Circle of Conquest (Lower) during the fall season.

4 Cannonbrawler

For pure offense without ample effort, Cannonbrawler’s a great early-hours scout to get on your side, and it’ll do you well when dabbling into monster synthesis. Cannonbrawler has a serious strength stat (albeit at the expense of basically every other stat, but that’s why it’s part of a team, not a solo artist).

Look at that smile, too. This guy’s got Bang, and he intends to use it. Moves that hit every enemy never go out of style, but they’re a little harder to come by at this stage. If Cannonbrawler’s trait kicks in, its attack will get a huge one-turn buff. This is parent material.

3 Healslime

If you’ve got a Wing Slime, and you’ve got a Lunatick, you’ve got yourself a Healslime. Take that Healslime, and use it for some further fusion. Healslime does exactly what’s on the tin, as they say; it’s an excellent healer. You won’t be taking too much damage yet when you can first fuse for it, but its innate Healer talent will still work wonders.

And it will keep on working wonders once you can synthesize with it for a first-rate Rank D Cureslime.

Healslimes show up during all four seasons in the Circle of Temperance (Lower).

2 Raptile

For the price of one Vegandragora and one Bag o’ Laughs, you can be the proud owner of a brand-new Raptile, a powerful monster with fire spell coverage, the Frizzmeister trait to amp up that damage, and the Shallow Breather innate talent for good measure.

Raptile is fast, too. Not the fastest monster around, but fast enough to outpace most of our other early picks. A little later, you can bring your Raptile in contact with a Restless Armor to further the fusion chain with Mandrake Major.

1 Hunter Mech

We’ll be honest. If you chat with folks over on Reddit for their input, most of them will probably put Hunter Mech in first place on this list, too. If you find some other site that’s up for rankings, we’ll be surprised if their authors don’t operate on a similar wavelength. Hunter Mech is just too irresistible. You’ll need a Restless Armor (hey, there’s that fellow again) and a Material Monster. For the Restless Armor, synthesize a Bambooligan and a Slime Knight.

What really makes the Hunter Mech jump off the page – other than its sky-high attack stat, that is – is its Tactical Trooper trait. When it triggers, it allows the Hunter Mech to attack twice in one round. There’s a slight stat decrease involved, but it’s marginal enough to hardly matter; you’re pretty much doubling your offensive output here with someone who is already, frankly, far stronger than most others in its class.
