10

Dover Demon

The Dover Demon, also known as Mr Mantis Shrimp, is an alien who was hired by the Serpo aliens in an attempt to kidnap Okarun for his powers. Although he seemed intimidating and hostile at first, the Dover demon had taken the Serpo's job to earn money to save his sick son.

Momo took in the seriously injured alien, and her friends and grandmother helped feed and care for him. After Momo's grandmother discovered that the alien's blood was made of milk, she gave him a cow and the grateful alien left Earth, promising to help him if they asked. Although he appears evil and single-minded at first, the demon Dover wins hearts with his pure motivations for his son's well-being.

9

Silky acrobatic

Acrobatic Silky may seem terrifying at first, but it has one of the saddest stories ever written. Once human, she took her own life after losing her son to crooks who she owed money to and couldn't repay. After wandering as a lost spirit, he meets a young Shiratori Aira and becomes obsessed with protecting her.

Since Aira could finally see her after taking Okarun's golden ball, she revealed herself to Aira and began attacking Momo and Okarun. He stopped when he realized he had hurt Aira and willingly gave her his life essence, giving Aira his powers by default. The acrobatic Silky may be gone, but she has left her mark with her tragic past and her continued willingness to fight to protect her daughter.

8

Kinta Sakata

One of Okarun's classmates, Kinta Sakata, is loud, dramatic, and determined to find a girlfriend. This is what led him to talk to Okarun in the first place, who by now had formed a close friendship with Momo and Aira.

As a result of Okarun's sequel, Kinta also becomes involved in the supernatural world. He turns into a reliable ally, controlling a mecha to help defeat a massive kaiju. Ultimately, while Kinta might be annoying at first glance, his nobility and courage in times of danger prove that he is good at heart.

7

Grandma Turbo

The first major yokai encountered in the show, Turbo Granny was the antagonist of the first four episodes of the show. Extremely fast and powerful, Turbo Granny fused with a local spirit, and although seemingly cruel, the yokai helped comfort the spirit of the murdered girls, establishing its territory in the tunnel.

After Okarun and Momo defeated her, she was unable to regain her powers from Okarun and now remains in a shrunken cat form. He occasionally provides information to the protagonists but still retains his selfish traits. Overall, Turbo Granny AND a mischievous and self-centered spirit, but the show continues to surprise us by showing his softer side and his humorous antics in testing human inventions like a cat.

6

Enjoji Jin

Momo's childhood friend and first crush, Enjoji Jin had moved in with his family, only to return after his new home was haunted by a dark entity. Seiko took him in and he started living with her at Momo's house.

Although he once teased Momo for her spiritual background, he regretted it after his experience with the Evil Eye. With the help of Momo and Okarun, he defeated the Evil Eye responsible for his parents' poor health and now has the ability to use the Evil Eye's powers. Jin may seem carefree and silly at first, but he is a very deep character and his willingness to redeem himself in front of Momo is admirable.

5

Shiratori Aira

At first, Shiratori Aira seems like a bit of an airhead, obsessed with maintaining a clean image and being a popular girl. She gradually develops the great idea of being a “chosen one”, destined to save the world.

Aira managed to get her hands on Okarun's golden ball, and after absorbing Acrobatic Silky's aura, she was able to wield the yokai's powers. Later, she develops a crush on Okarun and starts dating him and Momo. However, he still believes that Momo is some sort of conspirator against world peace, although he doesn't seem to take this threat as seriously as before. Even though she seems rather stupid and mean, Aira can admit when she is wrong and takes steps to correct her mistakes.

4

Unji Zuma

Although he will likely be animated in later seasons, Unji Zuma has a tragic background. He had lost his entire family to a series of unfortunate events, losing his younger brother to drowning and his mother to suicide.

Despite his intimidating appearance (being the leader of a gang), Zuma is kind-hearted and compassionate and tries to help the less fortunate. After fusing with the yokai Umbrella Boy, he becomes like Okarun and can transform and use spirit powers. Zuma received Okarun's missing golden ball to help him control his powers, meeting Momo some time later. Unji Zuma's character is the definition of grit, integrity and the ability to not judge a book by its cover.

3

Ayase Seiko

Quite possibly the coolest character AND grandmother who never existed, the deceptively youthful-looking Ayase Seiko is Momo's grandmother and raised Momo alone. She is also a famous medium, she goes on television to make predictions about the lives of others.

However, she's the real deal, able to restrain Turbo Granny and advise the trio on spiritual matters. Seiko is also the best Freddo grandmother as always, taking care of Momo's well-being without being too strict. Ultimately, Seiko is a real badass, a down-to-earth woman who genuinely loves her granddaughter and has established herself as someone to be taken seriously.

2

Takakura Ken/Okarun

Takakura Ken, or Okarun as nicknamed by Momo, was once a bullied and friendless high school student. He was fascinated by extraterrestrial life and didn't believe in ghosts until Momo dared him to enter a haunted tunnel.

Okarun was possessed by Turbo Granny, and after defeating the yokai with Momo and his grandmother's help, he managed to maintain the yokai's powers. With one of the most powerful yokai powers at his fingertips, Okarun fends off murderous aliens and evil spirits, while desperately searching for his missing testicle (yes, that's exactly what it sounds like).

And despite his less-than-glamorous start to life, Okarun doesn't let his negative experiences with others affect his character and the way he views life, as he is willing to risk his life for those he cares about Truly.

1

Ayase Momo

One of the show's main characters, Ayase Momo is an outgoing teenager who lives with her grandmother and has an obsession with Takakura Ken (not Okarun). After challenging Okarun, he ventures into an abandoned facility, where he encounters aliens for the first time and awakens his psychic powers.

She gradually forms a close friendship with Okarun, seemingly developing feelings for him. With the help of his grandmother, he improves control over his powers and is not afraid to get his hands dirty when defeating aliens and yokai. She is currently determined to help Okarun find his remaining golden ball.

However, one of the best things about Momo is that while everyone else denigrates Okarun, she does no such thing and instead welcomes him and even protects him from harm.
