Team Ninja is a subsidiary studio of Koei Tecmo, the developer best known for its hack-and-slash action games, especially its Ninja Gaiden franchising. THE Dead or alive The fighting game series is also an iconic Team Ninja property, though there hasn't been a new mainline entry in the franchise since 2019.
While Team Ninja is best known for these franchises, the developer also worked on other soulslike action RPGs in the 1920s. THE Nioh The series, in particular, stands out, being a soulslike series set in the Edo period. Subsequently, Team Ninja also collaborated with Square Enix for Final fantasy prequels, Stranger from Paradise: Final Fantasy Originalong with another soulslike historical fantasy inspired by Chinese mythology, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty. 2024 also saw the launch of the exclusive PlayStation 5 Rise of the Roninanother action RPG that received a lot of critical praise. In 4Gamer.net's roundup of Japanese developers' ambitions (as noted by Gematsu), Team Ninja's Fumihiko Yasuda mentioned the developer's plans for the franchise. It specifically mentions how the team hopes to release titles “suited to the occasion.” While Yasuda is vague about what games they're planning for the anniversary, it's likely something involving Team Ninja. Dead or alive OR Ninja Gaiden franchising. “In 2025, Team Ninja will celebrate its 30th anniversary and we hope to announce and release titles suited to the occasion,” Yasuda said.
Team Ninja's potential plans in 2025
More recently, Ninja Gaiden is making a comeback in 2025, announced at The Game Awards 2024 in December. Koei Tecmo and Dot Emu are teaming up for a new side-scrolling chapter in the form of Ninja Gaiden: Rageboundwhich aims to blend the classic gameplay and difficulty of the series' 8-bit era with some modern touches that bring the game closer to 3D entries. The last main entry in the series was in 2014 Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Za very controversial zombie themed title.
The other iconic IP linked to Team Ninja, Dead or alivehasn't had a new entry in the main fighting game since 2019 Dead or alive 6with the only thing the franchise has gotten in recent years being spin-offs Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 Scarlet AND Venus Holiday Prism: Dead or Alive Xtreme. Some fans hope so Dead or alive will get some love from Ninja Team this year for the studio's thirtieth anniversary. Moreover, fans want Nioh to get some love this year.
