Australian indie developer Team Cherry has released a short update regarding the long-awaited Metroidvania game Hollow Knight: Song of the Silk. The title has become something of a meme in the gaming world, as a release window for Hollow Knight: Song of the Silk remains a mystery almost six years after its first announcement.
In 2017, Team Cherry was released Hollow Knighta game where players must control a silent warrior as they explore a fallen underground kingdom and fight numerous difficult bosses. The indie title became a huge success and was praised by critics and players alike for its art style, music, and difficulty level, prompting Team Cherry to quickly begin working on DLC for the game. However, the project continued to grow in size and scope, eventually turning into a separate sequel. Hollow Knight: Song of the Silk was officially announced by the studio in February 2019, but six years later, a release date still hasn't been announced, and fans of the original have started to lose patience.

Team Cherry offered fans a tidbit of hope in a new post on Twitter. In response to a fan asking if the game was still in development, the studio's head of marketing and publishing, Matthew Griffin, stated that Hollow Knight: Song of the Silk “It's real, it's progressing and it will release.” While no further details were provided, the post gives many players hope that more news on the project will be revealed in 2025. In particular, Hollow Knight: Song of the Silk it did not appear at Gamescom 2024 or The Game Awards 2024, further frustrating those who had been waiting more than half a decade for its release.
Hollow Knight: Silksong remains in active development

Team Cherry had initially planned to release the game during the first half of 2023, but later said that more time was needed, not giving fans details on the state of the title at the time. The developers have confirmed that the title will be much larger than Hollow Knightwith over 100 different checkpoints and around 165 new enemies.
While news regarding the highly anticipated sequel remains scarce, some believe it Hollow Knight: Song of the Silk could be coming to Switch 2, theorizing that Team Cherry is optimizing the title for the recently revealed console. Others are hoping that an update will arrive on February 14, as this was the date the game was first announced in 2019. While rumors and theories continue to flourish on the internet, hopes remain high. Hollow Knight: Song of the Silk will arrive in players' hands in 2025.
