Starfield fans are slowly remaking Oblivion's prison

Key points

  • Starfield modders have recreated Oblivion's starting cell in the game.
  • You can even get Imperial Guard armor instead of UC Police.

Remember earlier this year, when a modder made the ambitious claim that they would bring Morrowind, Oblivion, AND Skyrim in Starfield, only to delete it three days later? Funny moments. Anyway, someone is recreating Oblivion in Starfield! Type.

The Elder Scrolls 6 must be completely different after Starfield

Bethesda's formula has long outstayed its welcome, and Shattered Space proves that The Elder Scrolls 6 needs to shake things up.

At least that's more than a vague promise on Reddit. They've recreated part of the initial dungeon, which you can download and see for yourself in the game right now. Using Blender and PAINT.net, they redid the original textures in 22 hours, building the iconic cell “brick by brick.” It also comes with the prisoner's clothes.

22 hours for a fraction of a level puts into perspective how monumental the task of recreating the entire game would be. Hell, an entire team has been remaking Oblivion in Skyrim for over a decade, and it's not finished yet! So I doubt we'll see everything in Starfield anytime soon, but they plan to finish the first dungeon Before Skyblivion and maybe even that first area you see when you come out of the sewers.

Some other fun Oblivion mods you can download

If you want Starfield to feel even more like Oblivion rather than filling the starting cell in the game, there are some good choices out there. You can revise some sound effects or replace the UC Police with Imperial Guards; Stop here, Starborn scum! Otherwise, you can swap Starfield's main menu with Oblivion's.

The modding community isn't as vibrant as Skyrim's, so there are far fewer options, but it'll be interesting to see where this more ambitious Oblivion-in-Starfield mod goes next. Frankly, I'd be happy just to see Kvatch on the moon.

Starfield game

Starfield is Bethesda's first new IP in a quarter of a century, launching for Xbox Series X|S and next-gen PC. Set outside our Solar System, you play as a member of the Constellation, a collective of explorers determined to discover new worlds.
