For years, the Sid Meier's Civilization the franchise has been one of the biggest names in the strategy genre. Published in 2014, Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth attempted to take the franchise into the world of science fiction for a whole new kind of adventure. It may have been met with positive reviews, but the title ended up disappointing audiences, receiving only a single expansion pack. Since then, the studio hasn't looked back. But while the experience may have been flawed, the actual concept is worth exploring again. With some changes and modifications, Beyond Earth it could be a fantastic experience for fans of the series.

Players could take on an iconic civilization, explore the stars as said civilization, and progress through a new form of story. There would still be aliens, unique planets, and other galactic factions. But, in its essence, it could still maintain that heart and charm of the Civilization franchise with a brand new focus. If done well enough, it could even spawn a new subseries for players to join between mainline entries.
It remains to be seen whether Firaxis will ever attempt a science fiction film Civilization or another spin-off in general. Right now, the studio is focused on delivery The Civilization of Sid Meier 7 and expanding it with countless post-launch updates and DLC. Hopefully, once this is done, the studio decides to take another risk again. Even if it's a small-scale, science fiction game Civilization the game could shine.
