Senegalese eye elegance for Eid at half the price

DAKAR: At a second-hand clothes shop on the outskirts of Senegal’s capital, Seynabou Sarr was inundated with orders just days before West Africa’s largest Muslim festival. Sarr, 30, constantly answers the phones, showing customers the used robe – a traditional robe worn by both men and women during religious or ceremonial occasions. Tabaski – celebrated on Monday by most Senegalese – is celebrated with great pomp but can put pressure on families to spend money on food and new clothes. Wearing the same outfit for two years in a row is frowned upon.
