Risks multiply for Mediterranean-bound migrants, UN study shows

GENEVA: More and more migrants and refugees are making dangerous journeys across Africa towards the southern shores of the Mediterranean, where they face growing risks of abuses such as kidnapping and organ theft, a UN-backed report said on Friday. Routes crossing the Sahara from West and East Africa north are believed to be twice as deadly as the better-documented central Mediterranean sea route, where more than 800 people have drowned this year, the report said.
