Some dedicated Pokemon Scarlet and Purple players created two solo strategies to defeat Infernape the Unrivaled, the new seven-star boss of the Tera raid. THE Pokemon Scarlet and Purple raid strategies were shared on social media, along with the moves, abilities, and effort values (EVs) used to build the Pokemon needed to take down Infernape.
Known as the Flame Pokemon, Infernape is the dual-type Fire and Fighting starter Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. Infernape evolves from Chimchar and Monferno through leveling and is considered a fast attacker with a versatile moveset capable of countering most enemies. In the last one Pokemon Scarlet and Purple Seven-star Tera Raid, Infernape was assigned the Rock type as its Tera type. Despite having the hidden ability Iron First, Infernape the Unrivaled does not use punch attacks. Instead, the new boss Pokemon comes with the moves Flare Blitz, Tera Blast, Aura Sphere, Grass Knot, Swords Dance, Nasty Plot, and Focus Energy.
A few hours after the arrival of Infernape the Unsurpassed Pokemon Scarlet and Purple trainers tested ways in which Flame Pokemon could be taken down. On the r/PokemonScarletViolet subreddit, two users have created distinct solo methods for defeating Infernape the Unrivaled and have shared their efforts with other trainers. One of the strategies used Kommo-o, a dual-type Dragon and Fighting monster Pokemon Sun and Moon. The crux of Kommo-o's strategy was to use the Bulletproof ability to make Infernape's Aura Sphere attack completely useless against it. Kommo-o also uses the moves Drain Punch, Iron Defense, and Press to boost its defenses and address Infernape the Ultimate's weakness to Fighting-type attacks. Statistically, Kommo-o was given maximum EVs in HP and Defense and also relied on other Pokemon that had the Intimidate Ability to reduce Infernape's attack stats upon returning to battle.

Another strategy involved Malamar, a dark, psychic creature of Pokemon X and Y. While Malamar is an unusual Pokemon in terms of design, it has the Counter Ability that other Pokemon like Serperior have. Contrary reverses the effects of stat changes from moves like Super Power or Close Combat, and can also be attached to other Pokemon via the skill-changing move Skill Swap. In this scenario, Malamar's Opposite was given to Infernape to reverse the effects of Sword Dance and Conspiracy. Malamar followed up with moves like Tera Blast and Superpower to overwhelm Flame Pokemon.
In short, both strategies took advantage of the skills available in Pokemon Scarlet and Purple to claim victory over Infernape the Unmatched. It remains to be seen what strategies players will form in future Tera Raid battles.
