Key points

  • Torterra will be a Ground Tera type that will award the Mighty Mark to victorious trainers.
  • The era of Starter Pokemon Tera Raid bosses in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will end with Torterra.

Pokemon Scarlet and Purple confirmed that another seven-star Tera Raid battle will take place in November, pitting trainers against Torterra the Unmatched. The imminent Pokemon Scarlet and Purple The battle will also mark the end of a long-running pattern that featured previous generation Starters as seven-star Tera Raid bosses.

Known as the Pokemon of the Continent, Torterra first appeared in Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. Torterra is the fully evolved form of Turtwig and Grotle and is a durable dual-type Grass and Ground Pokemon. With a shell larger than its body, Torterra is known for its tenacity and versatility in battle. Torterra's high health, physical attack and defense stats, along with attacks like Earthquake, Wooden Hammer, and Heavy Strike make Torterra a difficult foe for any Pokemon team. In Pokemon Scarlet and PurpleTorterra can be obtained by capturing a Turtwig in the Terarium Canyon Biome and evolving it through leveling up.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Reveal Torterra's Seven-Star Tera Raid Battle (Mid-November 2024)

  • Torterra the Unsurpassed will appear in seven-star Tera Raids from November 14th to 17th
  • A second round will take place from November 21st to 24th Pokémon coaches who lost the first weekend.
  • Torterra the Unrivaled will be of the Tera-Ground type and will carry the most powerful Mark.
  • Grass Pokemon are recommended to resist Torterra's strong attacks.

Like previous bosses, Torterra the Unsurpassed will have a hidden ability available to use. In this case, Torterra will have Shell Armor, which protects it from critical hits. This hidden ability was already present in Pokemon Scarlet and Purpleduring the March 2023 Tera raids against Samurott the Unrivaled. However, Shell Armor can be removed via moves like Skill Swap, Worry Seed, and Gastro Acid. Even without Shell Armor, Torterra the Unrivaled can still use Grass and Ground attacks, with the latter type getting a power boost from Terastallization. While flying Pokemon are immune to moves like Earthquake, Torterra can counter with Rock-type attacks like Stone Edge.

Given the Ground-type's weakness to strong Grass Pokemon, a team with creatures like Serperior and Appletun could prove useful. Only time will tell what strategies Pokemon Scarlet and Purple players develop.
