Zoro needs a final power-up during the Final Saga. Otherwise he will have no chance to defeat Mihawk in One Piece.

Fans will also likely see a major outbreak of war in the Final Saga, but the timeline of how it will end is still unclear. In fact, there may be another time jump One piece at some point later, and even Oda's own words seem to suggest it.

One Piece's first time jump occurred after Summit War

  • The Straw Hats decided to train for two years

Time jumps are an effective way for an author to strengthen his characters. Of course, there must be a suitable reason for the time jump to begin, and once the conditions are met, the characters return aged and, above all, stronger and more mature than ever. In case of One piecefans saw a time jump after the Summit War. Luffy failed to save Ace during the war, despite trying as hard as he could. Because of this failure, he almost gave up being a pirate. But, thankfully, he continued to persevere, and this is where Rayleigh suggested training for 2 years to avoid a similar fate in the future.

Let's meet in 3 days and 2 years on the Sabaody Archipelago! – the Straw Hat Pirates

With Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates training for 2 years, fans knew that the New World would not be as threatening a challenge to them as it otherwise would have been. In the post-timeskip of One piecethe Straw Hat Pirates have all demonstrated their extraordinary strength and, at the same time, overcome one obstacle after another. In fact, Luffy is a Yonko right now, which is definitely worthy of praise. He's just one step away from reaching his goal One piece now, and things finally seem within reach. But a second time jump seems to be inevitable in One Piece. The only question is when this time jump will happen.

Does One Piece need a second time skip?

Luffy doesn't need a time jump to become the Pirate King

The question of whether One piece whether it needs a second time jump or not is definitely one that would divide opinions among fans. There are many fans who believe that the Straw Hat Pirates' journey did not continue long enough and that they did not spend enough time inside the One piece world between them. To some extent, this is true. Luffy sails with the Straw Hat Pirates for a couple of months in the pre-timeskip, and after reuniting, once again, for a couple of months in the post-timeskip. In fact, since the conception of the Straw Hat Pirates, Luffy and the Straw Hats have spent less time together than they have spent apart, and the time jump takes care of that. It would make sense for the Straw Hat Pirates to sail the seas longer and for there to be more time jumps in One Piece, be they big or small.

At the same time, time jumps are a surefire way to mature characters and make them stronger at the same time. Fans would absolutely love to see a more adult version of Luffy, and the same goes for individuals like Zoro, Sanji, and others. In this sense, a second time jump is absolutely incredible.

One Piece: Luffy's impending execution explained

The final saga will be the most intense part of One Piece. Luffy's life could be in danger.

But, when you ask yourself whether or not a time jump is absolutely necessary, the answer is clearly no. One Piece doesn't need a second time jump. A case could be made if Luffy wasn't as strong as he is right now, and thus, another training time skip would definitely fit in somewhere. But Luffy is already a Yonko and has previously shown that he can strengthen himself in the midst of battle. Therefore, having a time skip just to have characters get stronger makes absolutely no sense, at least for now.

Simply put, while it would be exciting for fans to witness a time jump, it is absolutely not necessary to move the story forward. That said, based on Oda's words, it's possible that fans will experience a time jump at some point later in One Piece.

Because fans might eventually see the adult Straw Hats

Oda wants to represent Luffy's entire life

Much to fans' surprise, Oda has previously hinted at skipping more time One piecealbeit indirectly. In 2016, Oda talked about drawing Luffy's journey, and according to him, he wants to draw Luffy's entire life until the end. This is what Oda has to say:

Isn't it crazy that I didn't finish ONE PIECE after 20 years of drawing it? Anyway, I'll finish fully describing the amazing life of a pirate named Luffy. –Oda (2016)

As is clear from Oda's words, it intends to portray the entire life journey of the pirate named Luffy. This can only be possible in two ways. Either Luffy dies incredibly young and Oda covers up all of these events in the remaining arcs of the Final Saga, or things can potentially change and there can be a huge time jump in time. One piece.

Given Oda's reluctance to kill main characters, it's likely he doesn't intend to kill Luffy anytime soon. In fact, even attempting it, with Luffy as the main character, would be a suicidal move on Oda's part. Therefore, the only answer we arrive at is that Oda intends for there to be another time jump so that he can detail the life of the great pirate Luffy to the end, just as he stated. As for when the time jump should happen, fans can't say for sure. But it's likely that this will also mirror the pre-timeskip, and that's when Luffy entered the war right at the end. It's likely that something similar will happen around here too.

Luffy awakens his Gear 5th form in Wano (1)-1

As things stand, Luffy is incredibly close to reclaiming the One piece. It wouldn't make sense for the series to enter a time jump at this point. For now he will continue his adventure as a 19-year-old and will also continue to claim the title One piece. However, after Luffy stated that One piecethere could be a time jump. This time jump could happen immediately after, and in this case quite briefly, or it could happen after the Great War, when things have calmed down and the new world order has begun to take shape. This last idea makes the most sense, as fans can jump a few years into the future and see what their favorite characters look like a little older. This would be the perfect opportunity for Oda to incorporate a second time skip One pieceand while it's certainly not necessary, it would be a fun addition to the story.

One Piece is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and Manga Plus apps. The release date for the next chapter of One Piece, One Piece 1134, is set for December 22, 2024.
