One Piece: Blackbeard's special body, explained

Having been introduced in the pre-timeskip of One piecefans knew that Blackbeard was always saved by Oda for the final saga. Of course, Blackbeard has gotten attention here and there, but his real role will only play out here, which is something fans are incredibly excited about. Blackbeard is one of the four emperors One piece at this time, and an important player in the search for the One piece.

Along with Baggy, Luffy and Shanks, Blackbeard is one of the four main pirates competing for glory and fame on the high seas, and that's what makes him incredibly exciting. Even more, Blackbeard is one of the main antagonists of One pieceand one that Oda made a big thorn in Luffy's side. All of these things make Blackbeard an incredible antagonist, perhaps The one from One Piece much better. Just like every other major antagonist, Blackbeard hides many secrets, and one of the biggest of all concerns his strange body.

It's no surprise to fans that Blackbeard is special. He is not a normal human being and there has always been something strange about him. This was clear to fans from the beginning, when Luffy first met him in Mock Town. Clearly, Luffy was able to sense something different in Blackbeard, referring to him as “they”. Of course, this could simply be Luffy's reference to Blackbeard and his pirate crew, but a deeper meaning could be found here. Perhaps Luffy felt more of a presence within Blackbeard. This was further implied later when Ace fought Blackbeard. Despite dealing deadly blows to the former member of the Whitebeard Pirates, Ace was unable to make a breakthrough in this fight. He had the upper hand in this battle for a significant period of time, only to lose later.

This pattern has been repeated throughout the series on multiple occasions, including in the Paramount War, where Blackbeard's greatest secret was first hinted at. When Blackbeard managed to consume a second Devil Fruit, fans were completely shocked. This shock was further amplified by the Five Elders, who stated that in all of the history of the world, no one has ever managed to eat more than one Devil Fruit. This means that Blackbeard is doubly special and that there is no one like him in the world that fans or Elders know of.

It was Marco who suggested that things like eating two fruits are possible for an individual like Blackbeard thanks to a special body. However, Marco chose not to go into specific details about his body. At the very least, fans know her body was special.

In the Wano Country story arc, fans got a glimpse into Oden's life and there, once again, Blackbeard came into focus. In chapter 966 of One pieceRoger and Whitebeard clashed on an unknown island in the Grand Line. There, fans saw Shanks and Buggy clash with Blackbeard and a young Jozu, along with other pirates. Specifically, following this battle, Buggy states that he heard that Blackbeard doesn't sleep at all. Of course, these might just be childish jokes, but there is definitely a deeper meaning.

Blackbeard doesn't sleep and can't sleep, for some reason. This can be further linked to Luffy in Drum Island, where he states that there are some people in the winter countries of the world who die if they sleep. Maybe this has something to do with Blackbeard's secret and his special body, which makes things even more intriguing.

Because Blackbeard can eat two devil fruits

Blackbeard's unique body can contain two powers

Clearly, the reason Blackbeard can eat two Devil Fruits has to do with his body. Of course, there are many ideas out there, some of which suggest that Blackbeard may have eaten a special Devil Fruit, like that of the Kraken or Octopus, which allows him to contain three hearts and, therefore, three Devil Fruits. This idea is intriguing to say the least, but it cannot be true. Blackbeard has a special body not because of a devil fruit, but because he was born that way. This is clearly implied in Buggy's conversation with Shanks, where he says that Blackbeard can't sleep. Luffy himself implied this in Drum Island, and Oda even drew a young Blackbeard crying at night instead of sleeping.

Clearly Blackbeard was born special and this specialty leads him to be able to consume two Devil Fruits. As for Blackbeard's body, fans don't know. Perhaps Blackbeard has a parasitic twin in his own body, and after consuming his twin, he can now contain two devil fruits. This would make sense as to why Blackbeard can't sleep. Perhaps, when Blackbeard sleeps, his twin wakes up and prevents him from sleeping or, perhaps, he could potentially take his own life.

Of course, all of this is just conjecture, but, if there's something fans love about One Piece, it's theorizing and discussing various ideas. Blackbeard having a parasitic twin is certainly valid, and fans may see more of that later.

Is Blackbeard from a special breed?

Blackbeard's run may not be so special

Since Blackbeard has a special body, it is also possible that he comes from a special race. However, while this is certainly a possibility, fans should have known by now if Blackbeard was that special. Furthermore, if Blackbeard belonged to a special race, then there should have been more people in the world One piece that he would be able to eat two Devil Fruits, and if that were the case, the Elders should certainly have been aware of it, instead of being surprised that Blackbeard was able to consume two of these powerful abilities.

It is very likely that Blackbeard is not a special race, but his body is special for a different reason. The idea that Blackbeard has a twin in his own body that constantly fights with him and could potentially even kill him if he doesn't put him down makes more sense. This would also explain why Blackbeard can contain more than one Devil Fruit, as there are two people inside the same body. This is definitely an incredibly exciting idea and explains why Blackbeard has a unique body.

Hopefully, Oda will shed more light on Blackbeard in the final saga and reveal every little mystery about him. Blackbeard vs. Shanks and Blackbeard vs. Luffy are two fights where Oda will shed light on his special body and abilities, and fans can't wait to see it.
