Nintendo Switch Online ticks off another great item from players' wishlists

Nintendo Switch online it is far from perfect service. Since its launch in 2018, Switch Online has struggled to live up to its Xbox and PlayStation counterparts, with the service lacking common features like party chat and direct messaging. Switch Online's infrastructure has also been a constant point of criticism over the past six years, with netcode and server issues often causing extreme lag. But one shining light over the years has been Nintendo Switch Online's ever-growing library of retro video games.

Starting with just a handful of NES games, Nintendo Switch Online is now home to over 300 retro titles, including SNES, Sega Genesis, Game Boy, GBA, and Nintendo 64. That amazing collection just got a little bigger, with a classic Donkey Kong the game was added a few days ago.

Donkey Kong Land 2 is now on Switch Online

In 1995, Rare was developed The land of Donkey Kong released for the original Game Boy. An incredibly ambitious project for its time, The land of Donkey Kong was a condensed and reworked version of the beloved SNES game The land of Donkey Kong. Although some bosses have been changed and levels have been added, The land of Donkey Kong was a remarkably successful attempt to capture the gameplay formula of The land of Donkey Kongso much so that a sequel came out just a year later.

Donkey Kong Earth 2 launched in September 1996, also for the original Game Boy. Just like its predecessor, Donkey Kong Earth 2 attempted to distill a complete SNES Donkey Kong game in a small Game Pak. Donkey Kong Earth 2 it's essentially a retooled version of Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Questborrowing the SNES game's narrative and many of its stage names, but changing the design of some levels.

A big change in Donkey Kong Earth 2 and its most technically impressive SNES counterpart was the ability to play as Dixie Kong, who could spin her hair to slide. Donkey Kong Earth 2 is now available on Nintendo Switch Online.

But the The land of Donkey Kong is actually a trilogy, and that means there's still one entry left to join the Nintendo Switch Online roster. Donkey Kong Earth 3 was originally released in 1997, giving fans a portable version of Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!albeit with the level layout changed once again. With Donkey Kong Earth 1 AND 2 now on Switch Online, it would be great if Donkey Kong Earth 3 was right behind them, especially because DKL2 it was added just four days after its predecessor.

Nintendo Switch Online's Game Boy library is full of heavy hitters

With both Donkey Kong Earth 1 AND 2 now available on the service, the Game Boy/Game Boy Color library of Nintendo Switch Online currently includes 33 titles. While not as high as NSO's number of NES or SNES games, the vast majority of these Game Boy titles are certified Nintendo classics.
