New Nintendo Switch 2 release window leaks explained

Leaks, rumors and speculation characterized these first few days leading up to Nintendo's official reveal of the game Nintendo Switch2which was confirmed to be in development earlier this year. The console is expected to be the direct successor to the first Switch, revamping its design and core features – a rarity for modern Nintendo home consoles.

For a long time it was speculated that the new Nintendo Switch would be available for purchase around the beginning of 2025, or at least during its first half. Information straight from the horses' mouth has been rather scarce, although Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa has already openly stated that the console will be revealed before March next year. This led many to believe that some sort of official reveal would happen this fall or early winter, followed by a full-scale release just a few months later. But now, new rumors suggest that the Switch 2 launch date may be further away than many had initially predicted.

Why some believe the release of Nintendo Switch 2 has been delayed

Famiboard Nintendo Switch 2 Leaks

The latest Switch 2 news comes courtesy of a user called RandomlyRandom67 on Famiboards, a forum associated with Nintendo leaks and general speculation. In a hidden post, RandomlyRandom67 claims to have details on Switch 2 component shipments, which appear to indicate that the console did not enter mass production as of August of this year. The reasoning here is that, if Nintendo had planned to launch its next flagship console in early 2025, mass production would likely have begun by this August, especially since Nintendo has been transparent about its hopes of avoiding the problems of supply chain faced by its competitors. in 2020 and 2021.

Can Nintendo Switch 2 release date rumors be trusted?

The frustrating thing about Nintendo Switch 2 leaks and rumors is that, since Nintendo itself has revealed next to nothing about the system as of this writing, it's nearly impossible to verify the validity of most sources. News outlets, discussion boards, and individual reporters often have little more than their source's track record to go from when evaluating the veracity of Switch 2 claims, and even the most consistent leakers sometimes make mistakes. So, as always, RandomlyRandom67's claims should be taken with a good dose of salt.

That said, there are some aspects of the aforementioned Famiboards post that are worth analyzing. RandomlyRandom67, who claims to have access to shipping records from Vietnamese switch manufacturer HVBG, highlights some key components, including HDMI port testers, circuit boards, and something called a “game console external connection device.” It seems reasonable to assume that these components are related to the Nintendo Switch 2 hardware, given their vague descriptions and HVBG's professional relationship with Nintendo.

Apparently, the volume of these component shipments to HVBG is dwarfed by the monthly component shipments for the production of the original Switch, a ratio of 4:1 in some cases. Given that the first Nintendo Switch is now more than seven years old and demand for the Switch 2 will naturally be much higher, this difference in component shipments certainly suggests that the latter has not yet entered mass production.

At the same time, alternative explanations should not be ruled out. For one thing, while it may be natural to connect these components to the Switch 2, this connection is not beyond scrutiny, especially since most laypeople are unaware of everything that is produced by HVBG and the machinations of other companies technological; they may be intended for a completely different product. So, statements like these might be helpful in establishing context and expectations, but audiences should wait until the actual Switch 2 hardware reveal before drawing conclusions.
