From Street fighter AND Mortal combat figures to the just announced crossover between Sonic the Hedgehog AND Transformersmany video game characters have been released in plastic form over the years and popular lines such as GI Joe AND Transformers they have been adapted into video games of varying quality.
Indie developer Mechaghidora previously announced its mash-up of fighting games and action figures Detach in early 2024, with a free playable demo available on the game's official website. The premise of Detach recalls the childhood of many gamers, when children played with their toys and created epic battles using their imagination. Detach turns this nostalgic concept into a 2D fighting game-like Street fighter and the Capcom line Against. crossover titles, with a colorful cast of plastic toys battling it out using all sorts of attacks and combos.

Earlier this week, a full trailer for Detach was shown at the Latin American Games Showcase, an annual event dedicated to highlighting upcoming projects from developers in Latin American countries. This short trailer showed more of it Detach's gameplay and cast of characters, all of which appear to be based on popular action characters from the '80s and '90s. As previously noted, the 2D combat appears to borrow from Capcom titles such as Street fighterwith players trading blows and wacky special moves to see who can deplete their opponent's health bar first.

The old-school fighting gameplay seems to fit in well DetachThe premise of is to recreate favorite childhood gaming sessions, and there's already a fun variety of characters to choose from. The first to come out of the box is Kronan, an armored warrior similar to He-Man or the future Mortal Combat 1 guest fighter Conan the Barbarian, who is seen challenging the reptilian Wolfgang. Rayzenger is a robot that wouldn't look too out of place Gundam OR Mazinger Zwhile Grimrot seems to be inspired by Skeletor. Lastly, Lockjaw is a sea monster, while Oozebite is some sort of ape-like mutant.
From the gameplay footage shown so far, Detach it seems to work as smoothly as the classic 2D fighting games it draws influence from, and its central idea is one that may resonate with many gamers of that era. There is currently no set release date Detachbut it will launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam.
