Lush's Watermelon Soap Will Support Palestinian Children's Mental Health

LONDON: British beauty retailer Lush has launched a watermelon soap, with proceeds going to fund essential mental health support and trauma counselling for children in Gaza and the West Bank.

Watermelons have become a symbol of solidarity with Palestine, as they bear the colors of the Palestinian flag.

Lush soap is made with safe natural and synthetic ingredients, such as rapeseed, coconut, watermelon, bergamot and rose.

In 2011, the British Medical Journal published a review study that found high rates of post-traumatic stress disorder among Palestinian children. New research from Save the Children reported that feelings of depression, hyperactivity, a preference for solitude, and aggression are now reported by 95 percent of children in Gaza.

Lush’s support is nothing new. The company sources its extra virgin olive oil from the Marda Permaculture Farm in Palestine, which is dedicated to social and environmental regeneration. The farm encourages sustainable farming practices and provides economic opportunities to local communities.
