In a year that has already been packed with massive games (determining game of the year a few months from now is going to be tough), there is still so much more to come. Yes, Tears of the Kingdom is great and many of you are probably still playing it and will be for the foreseeable future. However, the release of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on October 20, 2023, may well make you finally trade your Joy-Con for a DualSense, and perhaps shake up those game of the year nominees with two months to go.
If you’re anything like me, Spider-Man 2’s launch can’t get here fast enough and anything that’ll quench your Spidey game thirst between now and then should be grabbed with both hands. Pre-ordering the game is a good start, and there are a few editions to choose from depending on just how much you want from your Spider-Man 2 experience once the game finally arrives. We’re here to guide you through all of the editions available so you can figure out which one is best for you.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
If you just want to get the game and get swinging, then the standard edition of Spider-Man 2 is probably the one that will suit you best.
- Cheapest option
- Still getting the same game as everyone else
- Missing out on extra suits and that sweet Venom statue
If you’re just here to find out where you can go to secure your copy of Spider-Man 2 and you’re not interested in any of the potential bonuses that can come with it, then the standard edition is for you. No bonus suits, no fancy statues, no pre-order bonuses, just a copy of the game every Spider-Man fan will be playing this October. It’s the same game as everyone else will have with plenty of stuff to do without needing to pay anything more. It’s a $70 game after all, that’s already a lot of money for a lot of people.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
Digital Deluxe Edition
If you’re looking for a little more Spider-Man for your buck, then the Digital Deluxe Edition might be for you. More suits, more photo mode stickers, and more skill points to kick off your adventure.
- Lots of suits to choose from right from the start
- Fancy stuff in photo mode others won’t have
- Power up Spidey right away with five skill points
- Using those skill points might make the early game a little too easy
- The tough suit decisions start right away
Let’s be honest, a big part of Insomniac’s first Spider-Man game for all of us was seeing what Peter looks like in all of his threads as we unlocked them. With the Digital Deluxe Edition of Spider-Man 2, you can do that right from the start with both Peter and Miles. Not only will you get a suit for each of them if you pre-order this edition, but you’ll also get ten unique suits, five for Peter and five for Miles, with this version of the game whether you pre-order it or not. Not to mention more options in photo mode and two skill points right at the start of the game, or a nice round five if you pre-order, plus a web grabber gadget from the start of the game if you pre-order too.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
This is the big one. The Collector’s Edition for Spider-Man fans who really want it all. It costs a lot of money, but you’ll be celebrating the launch of the sequel in style.
- So much Spider-Man stuff
- That Venom statue is real nice
- Any game with a statue is going to be expensive
- Distracted by cool stuff when you should be playing the game
Here it is. The ultimate version of Spider-Man 2 for all you webheads (is that what Spider-Man fans call themselves? It is now). Not only do you get the whole damn game plus everything that comes with the Digitial Deluxe Edition above, but you also get a very sleek steelbook display case so your copy of Spider-Man 2 looks better than everyone else’s, and best of all, that Venom statue. An in-action pose of the symbiote attacking Peter and Miles while they’re in mid-air. Wait, does this confirm Venom is definitely a villain? What about Peter’s symbiote suit? I’m still so confused but also very excited.
What Time Does Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Release?
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will be released exclusively on PS5 on Friday, October 20, 2023, likely at midnight local time wherever you are in the world.
Will You Be Able To Get Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 On PS4?
Sorry last-gen Spidey fans. As the PS5 nears its third anniversary, more and more studios are leaving the PS4 behind. Spider-Man 2 will be PS5-only which means you’ll have to own the latest PlayStation console to experience it.
Is Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 A PS5 Exclusive?
Not only will Spider-Man 2 not be available on PS4, but as has been the case for the previous two games, it will be a PlayStation exclusive. No Xbox or Nintendo Switch release. It will likely be available on PC eventually, but it’s probably going to be a long wait.
Will Venom Be Playable In Marvel’s Spider-Man 2?
The very first trailer for Spider-Man 2 confirmed Venom will be introduced to Insomniac’s Spider-Verse in the next game. However, not only do we not know whether Venom will be a playable character or not, we don’t even know if he will be working with Peter and Miles or against them.
