TGA 2021 GOTY It takes two was always going to be a tall order to follow, but that's the reality of the enormous task facing the developer's new title, Divided fictionannounced at The Game Awards. The game tells the story of Mio and Zoe, two writers who find themselves trapped in the contrasting worlds they created in their books. In Divided fictionthe pair will have to move between these worlds and work together to escape.

Game Rant plays Split Fiction with Hazelight's Josef Fares, whose latest game is even more creative than GOTY winner It Takes Two.
Split Fiction attempts to push boundaries even beyond the two-person limit
Divided fictionThe protagonists, Mio and Zoe, have each created a very different world through the books they have written. Mio's is a science fiction world, full of futuristic technology and weapons, while Zoe's is a fantasy world, complete with castles and dragons. The potential to regularly traverse these worlds is exciting and should offer plenty of interesting gameplay possibilities, but bringing two disparate genres together is a financial risk. Fares explained that Hazelight isn't interested in whether other games perform well or sell poorly on the market. Instead, the studio is more interested in making unique games that it's passionate about, and hopefully the rest should take care of itself:
''We don't look at the market in terms of what works and what doesn't work. I literally don't give a shit what works or doesn't work. I truly believe, even though it may sound a little silly, that if you do something out of passion and creativity, people feel it.
It takes two
it has sold over 20 million copies. I think this comes from a place where people can feel that what we've done is we've just followed our intuition and what we love to do.”
Hazelight continues to raise the bar with each project
Fares' passion for his work is evident, and this shines through in the projects he is involved in. Even for Fares himself, however, it was probably difficult to predict how successful he would be It takes two would be. Having recently surpassed the 20 million copy sales mark, it has put itself on the map as one of the most successful co-op games ever made. For some studios, the game's success would provide an easy model to replicate via sequels, but Fares was quick to explain that, for Hazelight, it's about pushing boundaries and trying new things:
“I don't think anyone is making the same games as us, but as far as I'm concerned, I'm not trying to prove anything to anyone. I just believe that we make the games that we love to play and that's pretty much how it all started. I just believe that in We have a tremendous amount of creativity in this industry that hasn't been explored yet. I just hope that Hazelight helps push this medium forward because I really love the gaming industry, so it's just cool to be a part of it, to push each of these new games forward. .''
There's no denying that every Hazelight game so far, A way out AND It takes twobrought something new to the table, particularly in the co-op genre. It seems Divided fiction it will be no different in this regard. With only a relatively short window until Divided fiction launches, fans should expect to see a lot more of the game in the coming weeks and months.
