How to get rough emeralds
While in previous updates players had to explore Desert Caverns to get their hands on raw Emerald, Emeralds now reside exclusively on the Lost Isles. Emeralds can be found on the Floating Islands and it can also be located in the Lost Isle Caves.
Neither location requires players to increase heat resistance to enter, making them a great place to go for early-game gems. However, these locations may cause players to face a Golem or a Brute, so players should still be cautious when exploring either.
When exploring both locations, players should keep an eye out for Emerald green nodes, which are quite prevalent in both areas. To get the raw emerald, players simply need to do so collect emerald knots with a rare rarity pickaxe or higher. By breaking these knots you will obtain many rough Emeralds, ready to be taken by players to their village to convert them into cut Emeralds.

How to get cut emeralds
Once players get their hands on the Rough Emeralds, they can do so convert them into cut emeralds using the gem cutter. Once a Gem Cutter is built, players can simply interact with it and select the Cut Emerald recipe via its interface. One rough emerald is needed to craft a cut emerald, making it relatively easy for players to gauge how much they will need to collect to fulfill a particular recipe.
What are cut emeralds used for?
Cut emeralds are a primarily used crafting recipe craft weapons of epic rarities via the crafting table. If players apply Cut Emeralds to the blade/head/butt of their desired weapon or tool via the crafting table, they can procure an Epic Rarity version of that same weapon. Cut emeralds are too used for gem shields and flintlock/musket shotseach of which are also weapons and tools of epic rarity.
In terms of utility, cut emeralds are a great way for players looking to get their hands on upgraded gear. Tools made from cut emeralds have the same durability as those made with Cut Ruby, but it boasts better kickback at the expense of lower speed. However, amber weapons rank higher when it comes to durability alone.
