Lego Fortnite: How To Get The Grappler

Here’s everything you need to know about how to unlock the Grappler and use it in Lego Fortnite.

The toughest enemies you’ll have to face off against are the enormous Brutes. Early on, encountering one of these would be a one-way ticket to heaven (well, respawning). After getting stronger weapons and gear, you’ll eventually want to seek them out for their loot. Here’s how to defeat Brutes and how to get Brute Scales.

Where To Find All Types Of Brutes

A Lego player raises a sword and shield against a monstrous Brute.

As you explore the Grasslands, the starting location in the game, you might come across one of the regular Brutes. They have glowing green eyes, and spiky skin, and large hammer-like arms. It’s best to avoid these until you get better gear.

However, you’ll find three different types of Brutes as you explore different biomes.

  • Regular Brutes can be found in the Grasslands and in the Shore.
    • Brutes will drop a Brute Scale.
  • Sand Brutes can be found in the Dry Valley, and occasionally in Lava Caves.
    • Sand Brutes will drop a Sand Brute Scale.
  • Frost Brutes can be found in the Frostlands, and occasionally in Ice Caves.
    • Frost Brutes will drop a Frost Brute Scale.

There aren’t specific spawn points for Brutes, so you will need to stumble across one randomly as it patrols its territory.

How To Defeat Brutes

While there are different types of Brutes, what you’ll need to know to defeat them will largely remain the same. They share the same attack patterns, but Sand Brutes (and sequentially Frost Brutes), will be stronger than the previous type of Brute. This means a higher health pool, and punches that deal a lot more damage.

Take a villager into battle with you. Since you can assign jobs to villagers, have one accompany you on your adventure. Your fighting companion can often distract a Brute, and take the brunt of their attacks. This will let you focus on attacking the Brutes with your weapons.

First, you need to know the Brute’s attack patterns. There are four main attacks a Brute will use against you.

  • A sweeping punch with its arms
  • A huge AOE slam down
  • A forward earthquake-style AOE
  • A poisonous projectile shot

Most of these attacks can be avoided with a well-timed dodge. The Brutes usually take a second to wind up an attack, clueing you in to what they are about to do.

Wait for an opportune moment, and attack with the strongest weapons you have. You can also whittle away at their health at a distance by using Recurve Crossbows.

Try to equip a Shield when going up against a Brute. You can raise the Shield to defend yourself if you need to block or reduce the damage you receive.

The poisonous projectiles that Brutes will shoot out at you are usually when you get a bit more distant from them. These leave a small poisonous AOE that lingers for a short time, so be careful not to step in them.

Especially if you are trying to just run away from a Brute, watch out for their projectile shots.

What Are Brute Scales For?

Brute Scales will mainly be used for crafting stronger gear and charms, but are necessary to upgrade your Crafting Bench to become an Epic Crafting Bench.

Keep on the lookout for Brute Scales in chests. This is a lucky way to get Brute Scales without having to fight the Brutes themselves.
