Monster Wrangling brings new life to Dragon Quest 3
Dragon Quest 3 is already a fantastic game, but how much does the new class and associated side quest impact the remake?
To do this, you must search for the divine Rubiss, trapped by Zoma in the Tower of Rubiss. This is a rather complicated task with some prerequisite tasks that need to be done before you can save Rubiss herself. Let's get started.
Recommended party and level
Before entering Rubiss Tower, you will need to be prepared. Its enemies aren't the most powerful in terms of raw damage, but the status effects that can accumulate on you are immense. To that end, you'll want some sleep resistant equipment to keep everyone awake in battle.
Here is the group we used to face the Rubiss Tower:
-
The hero with the Exemplary personality therefore they have immense physical strength.
-
A Monster Wrangler with the personality of the common man to give them an even distribution of stats, reinforced by the number of monsters you've recruited.
-
A Wizard turned wise with the personality of the elusive devil to increase their wisdom, agility and MP limit.
- A priest turned warrior with a tough cookie personalitygiving them great HP and resilience while still having enough MP to perform many upgrades.
Try organizing your own party around level 35-40. If you've gained two or three levels since you first entered Alefgard, you should be fine.
In search of the fairy flute
If you try to save Rubiss before acquiring the Fairy Flute, she will remain encased in stone. Rather than waste the journey and have to face all those enemies again, make sure you do it get the Fairy Flute early.
And where could you find the Fairy Flute? Luckily, it's actually not that far from the Rubiss Tower, located in the city of Kol to the southeast of it. There isn't even a big expedition to go on to collect it. Walk north of town and find it resting right next to the hot springs. Pick it up and you're good to go.
The Fairy Flute also has the added benefit of putting every enemy to sleep when used as an item in battle.
Navigation in the Rubiss Tower
While Rubiss Tower may look formidable from the outside, the real challenge is actually getting through it. It's winding, full of long corridors is guaranteed to give you lots of random encountersdraining your HP and MP long before you can reach the top. Here's the fastest way to reach Rubiss itself.
Once you enter the tower, immediately take the path on the leftfollowing it south until you reach the stairs. Take them upwards to Floor 2F, where you will now be in the southwest corner. Go around to the northeast and take these stairs up to floor 3F.
You will now be center-left. Instead of proceeding up the south stairs, go all the way around to the north and jump off the edge. The tiles here will rotate your controls slightly, turning them 90 degrees clockwise or counterclockwise depending on their color scheme. Keep this in mind for all future tiles you encounter.
Once you jump down, you'll be taken back to Floor 1F, but this time through the back entrance. Enter through the doors to gain access a new section of the first floorand take the stairs on the left upwards. This will take you to the northern section of floor 2F that you couldn't reach before. Take the stairs on the right side up to the 3F floor.
In this secluded section of the third floor, take the stairs in the same room to floor 4F. This takes you to the disconnected north side, but this is where we should be. Proceed left and take these stairs to floor 5F.
Now you will be at the top of the Rubiss Towerin the northwest corner. Proceed south and east to reach the central building. In here will be the petrified body of Rubiss, as well as a battle against a familiar enemy. Make sure you do it heal up and have your best gear equipped before entering.
After the boss is defeated and Rubiss is saved, he will grant it to you the Sacred Amuletas well as informing you about the items you need to reach the Zoma Citadel.
Each item optional
Although we must take the back road through the Tower of Rubiss to find this holy individual, the largest section of the tower contains countless treasures to find, all tremendously powerful. Here's where to find them all:

THE The Storm Lord's sword is very useful for the extra ability it has when used as an item, while the Silver shield it's one of the most powerful pieces of equipment you can find before having to go to a store. Make sure you don't miss them because they will be useful here against the boss too.
Defeat the soul of Baramos
An evil as powerful as Baramos could not be defeated so easily, and his soul still lingers to carry out the bidding of his master, Zoma. This time he appeared to stop you from saving Rubiss and took you a pair of Ashdemon to help him. Put his soul at peace once and for all.
Like the initial clash against Baramos, he maintains its weakness towards Lightningand fortunately also the Ashdemons. This makes the Skills Kazap Magia and Gigaslash incredibly useful in this fight if you have them. As such, have your Sage use Oomph on the Hero to make sure they are dealing as much damage as possible.
Baramos doesn't get any new moves in this matchup, so a lot of the same tactics now apply as before. weaken him to lower his defense and use Fizzle to limit him to just Hell and his physical attacks. This does it Insulating a must, but much of the equipment in the World of Darkness tends to offer defense against breath attacks as well.
Take out the Ashdemons firstwhich Kazap and Gigslash should do without. Keep your Sage and Warrior as a reserve, focusing primarily on healing and buffing, while the Hero and Monster Wrangler deal out the bulk of the damage. Wild Side comes in handy hereallowing you to deal double damage in a single turn while also maxing out Monster Wrangler's Agility.
With the Soul of Baramos defeated, Rubiss can be freed with the Fairy Fluteand you will be one step closer to finally ending the darkness that plagues this world.
