How to defeat the flame eater in metaphor: ReFantazio

Quick links

During the last month of Metaphor: ReFantaziothe player will have to face the Trials of the Dragons, in which you will have to face three powerful dragons followed by the secret boss of the base game. The Flame Eater is one of these dragons and has a difficult gimmick that normally makes it impossible to beat unless you prepare properly.

We recommend fighting this dragon last, even though the Star Eater seems stronger, as the other two will give you armor that will make this fight much easier to deal with. Here's how to prepare for this dragon to make the actual battle much easier.

The most important part of this battle is getting gear that negates or repels fire damage, as every three turns the dragon will use a unique attack that deals 9,999 fire damage, regardless of your buffs or protections. In total, there are four gears that negate fire damage:

Item name

Where to find it

Robe of the Cardinal Dragon

  • The reward for defeating the Devourer of Nations.

Flame Seal Corset

  • The reward for donating 38 golden beetles to the Brilehaven collector.

Split crimson shoes

Robe of the Cardinal Dragon

Make sure every party member has one of these items equipped, no matter how much it messes up your build. If possible, also equip the charm-resisting gear, but only if you can still equip the fire-cancelling item as well. Bring a party member with Ren Patra through the Legacy of Skills if you all can't resist the allure. Also bring a party member with Makarakarn, Dekaja and Dekundawhile everything else just focuses on dealing a lot of damage.

This boss absorbs fire but has no other resistances or weaknesses.

Metaphor: ReFantazio – Where to find the chronicle of the end

The Chronicle Of The End allows players to use the most powerful synthesis ability in Metaphor: ReFantazio; here's how to get it.

With a group that resists fire, this boss can become almost ridiculous, depending on the abilities he uses. Outside of basic attacks, most of this boss's abilities are fire skill and will be canceled, instantly ending his turn. Every third turn he will use the super attack which will have no effect and will also be canceled. If you have a party member who cannot resist fire, use Makarakarn on him to protect him and prepare your party for a powerful counterattack.

Like other dragons, this boss will prioritize its turn by maxing out its attack before actually attacking. Continue to use Dekaja every turn to ensure it also wastes a Press Turn icon by powering up before attacking. The only other major threat to worry about is the party becoming enchanted, as you are more likely to harm each other than this boss is to harm you. Prioritize the healing spell whenever it appears, and otherwise max out your attack before focusing on using your strongest attacks.

The combo of the Utility Manual with the Royal Sword of the Prince Archetype deals a lot of damage. Using a The Royal Masked Dancer's Hellfire Dance followed by the Royal Summoner's Summoning of the Dragon God it will also help weaken the enemy by creating a weakness to exploit. As long as you are properly prepared for this fire resistance fight, it will be the easiest dragon ever.
