How To Change Your Profession In Stardew Valley

We all have regrets in life — things we wished we hadn’t said, risks we should have taken, and relationships we wish had gone differently. Many people have regrets about their careers and the paths they took, and like many of its gameplay features, that’s something Stardew Valley takes into account.

In case you regret the choice you made when choosing Professions (or you simply have different needs now), Stardew doesn’t lock you into a choice permanently. Here, we are going to take a look at the Statue of Uncertainty, which is used to change skill Professions.

Updated October 22, 2023 by Jacqueline Zalace: Choosing a Profession can be a serious decision! We’ve added some more information on the best Professions that you can choose while interacting with the Statue of Uncertainty.

What Is The Statue Of Uncertainty?

talking to the statue of uncertainty

The Statue of Uncertainty is a cute, round statue that can be found in the Sewers of Pelican Town. Once you gain access to the Sewers, you can interact with the statue at any time. The statue asks if you wish to change any of your unlocked Professions for the price of 10,000g. The five Skills available for Profession-changing can be found listed below.

Choose the one you’d like to change and wait until you go to sleep that night, when you’ll be given the ability to choose new Professions.

You will lose the boons of your existing Profession the moment you clear them at the Statue of Uncertainty, but will not be given the choice of new Professions until you go to bed. For the rest of the day, you will not have any Professions in the skill that you cleared.

The prompt for reaching Level 5 in the selected skill will come up, giving you the option of choosing a different Profession path. If you have a second Profession unlocked by reaching Level 10, you’ll also need to select that after choosing your desired Level 5 Profession.

How Often Can You Change Professions?

You can technically change back and forth between Professions every single day without real penalty (except 10,000g). We don’t suggest doing this though; try to only change jobs to fit your current needs.

How to Unlock The Sewers

stardew valley sewers are unlocked

Unlocking the Sewers is a relatively straightforward process, though it’s a bit intensive and may take some time. You’ll need the Rusty Key to unlock the entrance to the Sewers, which is given to you by Gunther after you’ve donated 60 items to the Museum.

Such items include Minerals and Artifacts that can be found by Mining, cracking open Geodes, using the Hoe on Artifact Spots, and more.

You may also encounter Artifacts by defeating Monsters, finding Treasure while fishing, and breaking open Artifact Troves at the Blacksmith. Check out our full list of every item you can donate.

Once you have donated 60 items and obtained the Rusty Key, you can either head to the sewer cover in town, or to the sewer grate located on the bottom edge of the Cindersap Forest. With the key, you can enter as often as you want.
