How did Meridia become a black hole?

Every planet in the known Galactic Front of Helldivers 2 has seen its fair share of chaos, agony and devastating wars, especially Meridia. Meridia, one of the four planets found in the Umlaut sector located on the northeastern galactic plane, was not only transformed into a dead world, but was completely destroyed.

In its place is a brutal reminder of the cost of Galactic War and a stark warning of what could happen to any planet if it were deemed beyond recovery by Super Earth. A fate that no one wants for their world, for those who have already forgotten the event, or were not present, here is what happened to the planet Meridia in Helldivers 2.

Why is Meridia a black hole?

To start with, yes Meridia is no longer there. If you venture there in your spaceship, all you'll find waiting for you is a gigantic black hole. But why is Meridia like this?

Well, it became like this after a long conflict with the Terminides and an unfortunate attempt by the SEAF to contain them. The Super Earth scientists' plans failed so spectacularly that Earth's ruler had no choice but to do so completely eliminate the planet from the solar system using the Dark Fluid. They were successful in their efforts, but the presence of a unattended and gigantic black hole It seems to be causing a lot of concern now, and for good reason.

Life on Meridia before the black hole

To briefly go over the chronology, it is worth examining some details of how Meridia was transformed into a void of universal matter as it was previously just another lush planet. Era abundant with life and was mainly covered with dense jungles, forests, and very deep oceans.

The colonists of Super Earth flocked en masse and that was it terraformed quite quickly. But, like every other planet on the Galactic Front, eventually someone came knocking. In this case it was the Terminidesand they came in droves.

At the time, Super Earth scientists thought so installation of a TCS Tower system on the planet and nearby worlds, they could create a system-wide barrier against the Terminids. This would function for a time like the planet's towers dispensed lethal pesticidessweeping away insects. But eventually the insects changed.

Meridia falls

It turns out that some of the chemicals used in the TCS Towers may have had an adverse effect unwanted side effect on the Terms. After the analysis of some bugs by Super Earth scientists, it was discovered that the towers had caused mutations in insect genomes that they made them resistant to thermicide.

But not only that, he also had accelerated their growth and incubation period almost twenty times. This substantially exacerbated the problem as bugs spread rapidly, overwhelming defenses and quickly transforming Meridia into a super colony. An event that would have repercussions throughout the Galactic Front as Super Earth now had to deal with the enormous problem it had caused.

Due to the formation of the Super Colony of Meridia, the Automata were able to invade multiple fronts at once and create substantial territorial gains while Super Earth was distracted.

How did Meridia become a black hole?

To solve their problem, Super Earth decreed that they would invade the planet en masse and take it back from the Terminides. But once they arrived above the planet, the Helldiver fleets discovered that what was once a lush green planet with jungle had become a bowl of sterile powder full of insects.

The atmosphere had become a sickly brown colorwhile giant, towering sea stacks sprayed Terminid Spore, reducing visibility to meters in some places.

It was a real massacre for the Helldivers, thousands were lost to the mutated hordes of the Terminid and it was a stark reminder to Super Earth of how devastating insects can be. The planet had irreversibly changed, the atmosphere and soil ruined foreverand with no chance to claim it for themselves, Super Earth took a drastic step.

Super Earth tried bomb the planet several times. But it proved just as unsuccessful as the land invasion.

Operation Lasting Peace a multi-step plan was drawn up that would solve the Supercolony problem once and for all. The first step was for Hell Divers to distribute Dark Fluid, a substance captured by the Illuminati 100 years agoon the surface of the planet. This was achieved using drills that sent the fluid deep into the planet's crust at key points.

Over time the fluid would concentrate throughout the world and when a certain amount of critical mass is reached, it would explode. On June 2, 2184Meridia finally imploded. The battle was won, but Meridia was lost forever.
