Helldivers 2 has finally introduced the Illuminate update to Omens of Tyranny announced at The Game Awards. Almost immediately, Helldivers from across the galaxy zeroed in on the old enemy and drove them back, however, new incursions occur every day. Along with the Voteless and the Overseers, the enemy has wreaked havoc with their mighty Reapers.

The Helldivers 2 Killzone crossover didn't deserve the backlash
Helldivers 2 was once an uplifting and collaborative gem of a live service, but since launch the community has become a hotbed of outrage.
Giant tripods reminiscent of War of the Worlds are armed with shield barriers and long-range lasers, making them devastating in urban environments. However, what concerns the players most is how they got their names. What exactly do Harvesters collect? While it could simply be a nod to HG Wells' creations, players have a few theories.
How did the Illuminate reapers get their name?
In War of the Worlds, Tripods literally collected human blood to terraform the Earth. On the Helldivers subreddit, Be_Good_To_Others posed the question to the community, who provided reasonable but also ridiculous answers.
“They are clearly repurposed Illuminate agricultural tools,” one comment said. Another player agreed, saying, “It would actually make sense considering they were advanced but not militaristic during the first war.” One theory seems to be that Illuminate farming equipment is just as dangerous as any other heavy unit.
“We won against the Illuminati 100 years ago because they were not prepared for war at all,” said another comment, harking back to the First Galactic War. “Seeing as these bad boys are 10 times taller than their previous versions, they are most likely enhanced and weaponized tools.”
However, some players remain vigilant, theorizing that we have not yet seen the full might of the Illuminati forces. “I'm terrified of the progress the Illuminati has achieved. I mean, just look at the Voteless for example: human beings mind-controlled with such intensity that it changes the structure of their DNA.”
One chilling theory suggests that “They're after our super corn!” They may have our voters, but never our corn!
Considering how much they resemble the tripods from War of the Worlds, the real answer is probably just a reference to the source material.
